My name is Ive, I’m from Germany and I’m 23 years old. I currently finished my bachelors degree and now continuing in my masters studying to become a teacher for Spanish and Physics at a secondary school. After my high school graduation I already spend a year abroad, studying in the USA and Canada and participating in two workaway proyects in Spain, as a monitor in a childrens camp and as an Au Pair. Right now i'm studying a semester abroad in Argentina.

Afterwards i would love to get to know other countries in Latinamerica to get to know the culture and improve my language skills.
I speak German (mother tongue) as well as English and Spanish (proficient). Spanish is part of my studies/ career and i have a certificated C1. Furthermore i'm fluent in Catalan and have basic knowledge in Finish.

I would love to take part in volunteer work, for example including children or youth. I could also help them with their homework and teach them English or German.
I already have a lot of experience with child care as well as tutoring foreign languages and I worked as a camp counsellor in a riding summer camp.
On the other hand it would be really interesting to take a look into totally different fields, i'm also interested in hospitality or farm work and willing to learn something new.

In my free time I like to dance Salsa and Bachata, play the ukulele, do yoga and cooking.

me llamo Ive, soy de Alemania y tengo 23 años. Recién recibí mi grado y por el momento sigo estudiando en el posgrado para ser profesora de Español y Física en un Instituto de Enseñanza secundaria. Tras haber terminado la secundaria, hice un ano sabático, estudiando en los Estados Unidos y en Canadá tanto como participar en dos proyectos por Workaway en Espana, como monitora en un campamento de niños y como Au Pair. Ahora mismo estoy estudiando por un semestre en el extranjero en Argentina.

Después me encantaría conocer más países en Latinoamérica para conocer la cultura y improvisar mis conocimientos lingüísticos. Hablo alemán como lengua materna, inglés y en español con fluidez. Dado que el idioma español forma parte de mi carrera tengo un nivel de C1 certificado. Además hablo catalán y tengo conocimientos básicos en finés.

Me gustaría participar en trabajo voluntario, por ejemplo incluyendo niños o adolescentes. También podría ayudarles con sus deberes y enseñarles el inglés o alemán.
Ya tengo mucha experiencia con el cuidado de niños, daba clases particulares de lenguas extranjeras y trabajaba en un campamento de equitación en verano.
Al otro lado sería muy interesante conocer un campo totalmente diferente, me interesa también hospitalidad o trabajo en una granja.

En mi tiempo libre me gusta bailar salsa y bachata, tocar el ukulele, hacer yoga o cocinar.

Ive fue una voluntaria increíble. Fue muy linda con los niños, respetó y se adaptó con mucho cariño a las clases y a las normas de la casa, y me ayudó muchísimo en todo. Siempre tratamos de avanzar juntas y su empatía, tanto con los chicos como con los demás voluntarios, fue realmente increíble.

I spent three really chilled weeks with the other volunteers as it was school vacation. So, I only taught two days at the English classes at school and did some tutoring in the afternoons. There was one 4-bedroom and another 2-bedroom, which might be gendermixed (they moved recently). You have to buy all your food including toilet paper, soap and … read more water (but 20L water jars can be delivered and shared if you order via the whatsapp number on the jar). Bed linen were provided but no towels. The kitchen is equipped quite well. Usually, you would go to a local primary school (till 6th grade) and do your own English classes with all volunteers in a team. The kids’ English level is very basic so Spanish knowledge is helpful, and you can stick to the exercises in the workbook. The school is within 20 minutes walking distance or you take a Tuc Tuc. In the afternoon you help at the Academy which is in the same place where you live.
It used to be bigger, but when I was there, there were music classes (piano, guitar, violin) and English tutoring, so no dancing or cooking. The kids were quite cute, some had special needs. For getting any kind of information you have to ask Jennifer proactively, she also has a list with excursions and details how to get to Machu Picchu from there. As I was there during the vacation and national holidays, I could experience street parades and visit a huge fair with all kinds of fruits and products from the area. Quillabamba also has nice cafes and waterfalls, my favorite was the cacao fruit juice (mucilago) at Casa Cacao Chuncho. You can also go to cocoa farms with an agency. I felt safe during the day in the city center and enjoyed shopping fruits at the local farmer’s market. There is also a bigger supermarket (Hola Supermercado) or a small convenience store close to where you live. As it is in the rainforest it can get very hot and there were many mosquitos, so bring repellent and check recommended vaccines for the area. Also, ear plugs for sleeping are useful as sometimes there is noise on the street. It is important to have some cash for the market and the tuc tuc rides within the town, for me the ATM of Caja Arequipa at Plaza Grau didn’t charge me a fee. To get there I recommend Cusela Suite, which is the most comfortable one and can be booked online on redbus.pe. Overall i loved beeing with the kids and the other volunteers nevertheless it felt a bit hard to get in contact with the local people who seemed rather shy with foreigners.
