Hi, I’m Isabelle.
I’m a freelance assistant director working in opera. I graduated in June 2024 with an MA in Opera Directing from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. Since then, I’ve been working mostly in France as an assistant with different opera houses, but I’m really hoping to spend some time working in Germany—ideally in a German opera house by 2027.
To prepare for this, I’m focusing on strengthening my German language skills during production breaks. I started learning at the Goethe-Institut in Paris and would love to get more confident speaking it day to day.
I’m a quick learner, love being part of a team, and I’m always happy to help out wherever I’m needed. I’ve done a bit of everything—from working in bars and restaurants to helping out at events and in theatres. I also really enjoy working with kids: I’ve done a lot of babysitting, worked as a primary school music teacher and choir director, taught private singing and music theory lessons, and helped supervise the children’s choir at the Philharmonie de Paris.
I’m always up for new experiences and excited to keep learning—both in my work and in life.Interests

I would love to live and work in Germany. I think that the German language is beautiful and I admire a lot of German Opera Directors. My German is not yet fluent and I'm looking to improve. I think the best way to learn a language, is to immerse yourself completly in the country. I was born and raised in France by South African parents. I’d be more than happy to teach some French or English.Skills and knowledge I'd like to share or learn
