Looking to immerse myself in a work exchange where there are a wide variety of tasks, both indoors & out. A peaceful setting with ready access to the outdoors, nature and animals.
Description
I used to dream of traveling the world, and am finally doing it! Five years ago, I decided to sell my house, my car and all my belongings, and left Canada for parts unknown.
Since then, I’ve renovated an abandoned beach house in a remote fishing village in Costa Rica, lived in several towns and villages across Mexico, walked 800 km across Spain on the El Camino, and done forest management in Norther California.
The things that bring me joy? Those brief, random, authentic connections that happen between strangers - little moments of kindness, genuine smiles, offers of help, instant friendships. It really doesn’t take much to connect and make a real difference in someone’s life, even if it’s just for a moment.
I have a strong love of and compassion for animals, and one of my life dreams is to start an animal sanctuary one day - just looking for the right location and people to share it with.
I’m a hard worker, don’t mind getting dirty, and I like to keep busy, but I have no problem shutting off and relaxing when it’s time for that. I’m open-minded & open-hearted, and while I enjoy occasionally being social in small groups, I tend to need time alone or with animals to recharge.Interests

More details about your skills
I’ve led a varied and interesting work life, sometimes holding a ‘real’ job (XRay Technologist, Executive Assistant, Program Director), but mostly working for myself (natural skincare artisan & shopkeeper, small business consultant, life coach, declutterer/organizer, homesteader, candy maker, freelance writer). I believe any job deserves to be done well, no matter how mundane, and in the end, it doesn’t matter so much WHAT we do, but WHY.
I’m very good at organizing & tidying - making order out of chaos is one of my superpowers! I’m very comfortable in the kitchen, enjoy cooking, and particularly love baking & preserving. I have good experience with hands on growing, harvesting, processing and crafting with herbs, medicinal plants & vegetables.
While living in Costa Rica & Mexico, I fostered and rehabilitated several dogs in dire need (wish I could have helped more!), I’ve raised chickens and turkeys, and helped look after goats, sheep and ducks. Animals are definitely a love and passion of mine.
I’ve also helped renovate several homes over the past 10 years, and am great with painting and finishing work in particular.
I really enjoy interacting one on one or in small groups, and am very comfortable with people of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds!Age

What else ...
I notice that most Workawayers are younger than I, given my late start on this more nomadic lifestyle. I can bring a degree of maturity to an exchange, but I don’t fit my age in most other respects. I’m strong & healthy, and have lots of energy & stamina to bring to the table.
