  • Description

Hello, my name is Gitte, and I'm a 20-year-old student from Belgium. I have a passion for Geography, and after completing my bachelor's degree, I'm eagerly preparing to begin my master's program in October. Apart from my academic pursuits, I find joy in rock climbing and going for runs to stay active.
One of my greatest interests lies in immersing myself in different cultures and exploring various ways of living. This curiosity has led me to work as a volunteer for AFS, a non-profit organization that facilitates exchanges for young people around the world. Through my involvement with AFS, I've been fortunate to meet incredible individuals from diverse backgrounds.
I am currently planning a trip to Kenya with two friends, Marco and Sarah, who are also from Belgium. Marco shares my enthusiasm for exploring new horizons and is an avid frisbee player. As for Sarah, she is 21 years old and studying medicine. Her passion for making a difference led her to volunteer in a hospital in Nairobi for a month in July. Like me, she is actively engaged in volunteer work with AFS.
During our visit to Kenya in August, we are hoping to find a project that will allow us to learn about the local communities and contribute to their development. We are excited about the opportunity to make a positive impact and gain a deeper understanding of Kenya's rich culture and heritage.

  • More details about your skills

I am a dedicated volunteer for AFS, a non-profit organization that facilitates exchanges for young people around the world. Through my involvement with AFS, I have had the invaluable opportunity to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, which has allowed me to develop strong interpersonal skills and gain a wide range of experiences. My responsibilities have included organizing activities, supporting children in their personal growth, and supervising other volunteers.

In addition to my volunteer work, I have also gained valuable work experience in other areas. I had the privilege of working for one month at the national climate station of Belgium. I have also dedicated significant time to working at my local supermarket, honing my customer service and organizational skills.

As a student of Geography, I possess a solid foundation in geographical knowledge and skills. This includes understanding spatial relationships, analyzing data, and interpreting maps and charts.

Furthermore, my experience as a group monitor in a scouting program has taught me how to engage and interact with children, providing entertainment and guidance in a responsible manner.

One of my travel companions, Sarah, is pursuing her studies in medicine and brings her own unique experiences to our journey. She has firsthand experience working in a hospital in Nairobi, which has deepened her understanding of healthcare and reinforced her passion for making a difference in the lives of others.

  • What else ...

Sports hold a special place in our hearts, and both Sarah and Marco actually met each other during frisbee classes. Meanwhile, my connection with Sarah stems from our shared volunteer work at AFS. Our love for sports has instilled in us a sense of teamwork, discipline, and dedication.

On a personal note, I (Gitte) have a strong passion for science and I would like to teach it. I firmly believe in the importance of education and empowering others with knowledge.
Being open-minded individuals, we are always eager to embrace new ideas and perspectives, continuously seeking personal growth and understanding. Our dedication to learning and making a positive impact drives us forward in all our endeavors.
