Description
Hello! I’m Gaia, an 19 years old girl from Milan, Italy, who can’t wait to discover the world.
I volunteered for three weeks with my family to build an outdoor theater in Dordogne, France. Of this experience, of what I liked the most was meeting new people, expanding my horizons, opening my mind, and the chance to improve myself as a person and working hard to do some good in the world.
I started working as a babysitter as soon as I turned 17 and this has given me the opportunity to develop many productive and learning skills, including problem-solving, creative thinking, social and communication skills and time-management.
I‘ve never liked my hometown because I consider it to be too gray and with not enough nature or animals: the things that I love the most and that make me the happiest. That’s why my volunteering will be focused on helping the animals in the countryside.
I always knew that I wanted to travel the world but I never knew when or how until, in Egypt, I saw a bunch of stray dogs under a bridge and I felt the need and desire to help them. So the next day, as I was going to go scuba diving in the same place again, I managed to get some food and water from the hotel before arriving and gave it to them.
Observing how such a small act of kindness and care could change their day, filled me with motivation to find more opportunities to offer neglected animals my time, energy and love.
Since then I’ve started helping stray cats and dog every time I saw them all over the world, but now I want to really commit to the cause, and I think that Workaway is a great opportunity to do what makes me happy and make others happy.

I have always been passionate about languages and it has always been easy for me to learn them. I started with English and I got to get the Cambridge B2 level two years ago, I've been studying Spanish for 5 years now so I understand it and I speak it quite well. The next language I would like to learn is Arabic and I would also love to resume the French that I had done a bit, and badly, in middle school. I can teach Italian and English without any problems.Skills and knowledge I'd like to share or learn

More details about your skills
I’ve always helped in the house so I can easily do the basic chores, but I can also help with projecting and building things. For example last year I built a stage in France using concrete, sand, bamboos and wood with my family.
I have helped out in gardening couple of times, however I wouldn’t consider myself well-experienced. But I feel confident to say that I’m not scared to dirty my clothes!
I studied psychology, anthropology and sociology in school for 5 years and I plan to do a University of Psychology in the Netherlands after my sabbatical year; so I learned a lot about people and cultures.
I have a lot of patience and I’m a big empathetic, so I’m pretty good with kids, animals (I have a lovely dog since 14 years) and elderly people.Age

What else ...
Since I was little I’ve always enjoyed helping my dad build objects, furniture, re-painting, drilling and everything related to home maintenance. I also like to help my grandmother cultivate the vegetable garden and cook typical Italian dishes such as pasta or pizza, although I prefer to cook (and eat) desserts.
I love playing cards or all board games in general and spend the nights laughing, talking, listening to all kind of music and playing. Some more information

Nikos is really generous, he dedicates his life to animal well-being and has great vibes.
All the dogs and volunteers I met during my stay were wonderful, so it was really hard to say goodbye.
