  • Description

Hello everyone! My name is Florin, from Romania, I am a slow traveler and I am passionate about learning how to do things; I am that practical kind of guy (but not only, you will see further on).

Almost 8 years ago when I decided to travel using Workaway, I've been lucky enough to find my first host to be just the right one for a beginner traveller and a former farmer. I reached a community in Germany full of skilled people. Never in my life before I've been in contact with such people and of course I took advantage of the new situation I was in. I had such a thirst for learning everything they could teach me ( no exaggeration, I promise! ). I stayed with them for more than 5 years (they had a lot of things to teach me and it would have taken a while).

So, what kind of skills I gained through hard work, responsibility, discipline, punctuality, clear instructions and good mentors? In the beginning of my stay it was about animals, gardening, general maintenance - which for a farmer like me wasn't something new, but as soon as I got introduced to the construction site building a wooden-framed house for all the volunteers coming from all over the world, things took a very interesting turn. It caught my attention and from that moment on to all those skills I brought to a (semi) professional level:
*plumbing: waste water, drinking water systems
*dry-wall construction : chip boards, plywood, plaster boards, plastering, painting
    *brick work
*ceramic tiling : bathrooms, toilets, hallways
*electricity : electric wiring, mounting of wall sockets, switches, lights
*team leader in different activities, mainly construction work
*working with all kinds of power tools
*and all the other little things that are necessary on a construction site
** *another thing I would add to the list is that I developed an eye or feeling for figuring out things when there's an unexpected change or challenge.

I've been hitchhiking around 40.000 kilometres so far, I ventured into the unknown, put myself into tricky situations and have plenty of stories to share.

I mentioned above that I am a practical guy, but not only. What I meant with it is that I met a lot of people on my way which made me so curious about life in general and the common well-being of all of us. I discovered the power of thinking, of how important is to question big, to feel, to share,to get rid of unnecessary burdens, of societal expectations, to imagining and creating that kind of world I want to live in, to influence and heal each other.

I'm traveling to find my own way of contributing to the world, to have a better understanding of it, to get inspired and share.
