Description
Fiona
Married to Pete
3 Children and 5 Grandchildren
Have been a childminder and foster parent.
Aged 70 retired physiotherapist and still very active
Main work has been as a community physiotherapist in the Scottish Highlands and have also worked overseas in a number of voluntary and paid roles. Overseas experience has been in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Vanuatu, India and Uganda over a total period of 3-4 years.
I like organising and planning, and have worked as a Crossroads (home care service) coordinator and a fundraising coordinator.
I enjoy teaching, having taught physiotherapy students, teambuilding, and English as a foreign language to adult learners although I have no formal educational qualifications.
In all my work my main source of satisfaction at work is in helping people, and my most recent work has been as a Marie Curie carer (end of life care).
I like meeting new people, visiting new places, and working alongside my husband. I like organising, planning things, and like to be well prepared.
I’m delighted that 2 of our 3 children live locally, and that we have 4 grandchildren that we can see most days and often help with their care. People say that I’m good with children, and I certainly enjoy their company.
I like exercising and being in the outdoors.

Aged 72, fit and active
Main work has been as a family doctor in the Scottish Highlands and have also worked overseas in a number of voluntary and paid roles. Overseas experience has been in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Vanuatu, India and Uganda over a total period of 3-4 years between 1982 and 2009.
I have taught junior doctors, appraised medical colleagues, and written examination questions and learning tools for doctors.
I love the outdoors, and have been a volunteer with Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team, and a walking guide with Wilderness Scotland adventure travel company.
I do voluntary work building dry stone walls.
When I worked as a doctor, I enjoyed the process of helping people discover personal insights and new skills, and also enjoyed work with tangible outcomes such as minor surgery. I was very happy working as part of a team in mountain rescue. Since retiring from medical practice I have had a great buzz from being with my grandchildren, doing bits of voluntary work, and being part of a local environmental group.
Although the ability to travel and work together overseas has been a great joy for us as a couple, the arrival of our grandchildren has made us painfully aware of the environmental cost of air travel, and we have cut our flying drastically.
We still have an itch to gain new perspectives in different parts of the world through infrequent work placements of around 3 months, and Workaway seems like an ideal way to achieve this,
.
We both enjoy keeping fit, particularly through walking, and attend exercise classes regularly. Fiona loves dancing, and Pete stands on her toes. Although we love our home in the Scottish Highlands, we like new challenges, and have enjoyed adapting to new circumstances in our previous international work and travels.
