I completed 8 weeks of language school in Granada in spring 2018 after which I did some volunteering. The volunteering was a very enjoyable experience which I did for a number of months over two years between trips home to Ireland. Then came covid. Between 2020 and 2024 I completed a Spanish language course, B1 and B2 level in the El Palo campus of the University of Málaga. I also qualified as a English teacher and worked in various schools from 2021 to 2024. Now in October 2024 I am again looking to volunteer in Spain (The reviews from my positions are to be seen on the site).
I currently live in Málaga and I am available to volunteer immediately.

After 18 years with my previous employer, I am a technician, in Ireland I decided to start a new adventure so I came to Spain in 2018 to learn the language and experience the culture of Spain. It was a big decision to take and I was determined to make it work which it has so far. I am fit and healthy, I like trekking and have walked a number of Caminos De Santiago, most recently in 2018. I am a quick learner and a hard worker.

I believe I would be a good Workaway volunteer and a good person for hosts to opt for. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask me and I will answer them.

Completé 8 semanas de escuela de idiomas en Granada en la primavera de 2018, después de lo cual hice un voluntariado. El voluntariado fue una experiencia muy agradable que realicé durante varios meses y años entre viajes a casa en Irlanda. Luego llegó la covid. Entre 2020 y 2024 realicé un curso de español, nivel B1 y B2 en el campus de El Palo de la Universidad de Málaga. También me titulé como profesora de inglés y trabajé en varias escuelas de 2021 a 2024. Ahora, en octubre de 2024, vuelvo a buscar ser voluntario en España (las reseñas de mis puestos se pueden ver en el sitio).
Actualmente vivo en Málaga y estoy disponible para ser voluntaria de inmediato.

Después de 18 años con mi empleador anterior, soy técnico, en Irlanda decidí comenzar una nueva aventura así que vine a España en 2018 para aprender el idioma y experimentar la cultura de España. Fue una gran decisión y estaba decidido a hacer que funcionara, lo que ha sucedido hasta ahora. Estoy en forma y saludable, me gusta el trekking y he recorrido varios Caminos de Santiago, el más reciente en 2018. Aprendo rápido y soy muy trabajadora.

I have worked a service technician, industrial weighing equipment, for the previous 18 years, this involved the selling, fitting and maintenance of this equipment. Previously I worked in a variety of jobs, barman, caretaker in a school, builders helper. I maintain my own garden, cook and maintain my own home. I am used to animals as we have a dog (a greyhound) and a cat. I am willingly and want to learn new skills and expose myself to new situations. I believe I would be a good Workaway worker.
He trabajado en un técnico de servicio, equipo de pesaje industrial, durante los últimos 18 años, esto involucró la venta, instalación y mantenimiento de este equipo. Anteriormente trabajé en una variedad de trabajos, barman, conserje en una escuela, ayudante de construcción. Mantengo mi propio jardín, cocino y mantengo mi propio hogar. Pasé dos semanas con Mikel y Marian a fines de julio. Todo estuvo muy bien desde la comunicación antes de llegar a su hermosa casa / hotel hasta mi último día con ellos.
Mikel y Marian son buenos anfitriones, el alojamiento era muy bueno, una habitación en su hotel rural con baño privado. La comida también era muy buena (Marian es una muy buena… read more cocinera, ella cocina platos típicos españoles, por ejemplo, chipriones en su propia tinta con arroz). Cuando cocinaba para mí, podía usar la cocina, todos los utensilios y toda la comida que contenía.
El trabajo fue justo y nunca más de cinco horas. Trabajaba en el huerto y en los alrededores y, a veces, conducía el automóvil cuando Mikel quería ir a la ciudad. Tenía la opción de usar el automóvil durante mi tiempo libre.
El pueblo de Ainsa es un pueblo bonito y el campo alrededor de la casa y el pueblo es muy especial. El valle de Aniscola es hermoso (aún más ahora cuando las hojas comienzan a cambiar de color durante el otoño). Un paraíso para el senderismo. Hay rutas fuera de la puerta principal del hotel. Si quieres saber algo sobre el campo, pregúntale a Mikel ya que tiene un profundo conocimiento sobre ainsa y el campo.
Si tienes la opción de ofrecerte como voluntario con Mikel y Marion, te recomiendo que vayas a ellos. Este es un lugar maravilloso y creo que lo pasarás bien, ciertamente lo hice.

I spent two weeks with Mikel and Marian at the end of July. Everything was very good from the communication before I reached their beautiful house/hotel until my last day with them.
Mikel and Marian are good hosts, the accommodation was very good, a room in their rural hotel with private bathroom. The food was also very good (Marian is a very good cook, she cooks typical Spanish dishes for example chipriones in their own ink with rice). When I cooked for myself, I could use the kitchen, all the utensils and all the food it contained.
The work was fair and never more than five hours. I worked in the vegetable garden and in the surrounding grounds and sometimes I drove the car when Mikel wanted to go to town. I had the option of using the car during my free time.
The town of Ainsa is a pretty town and the countryside around the house and the town is very special. The Aniscola valley is beautiful (even more now when the leaves begin to change color during the fall). A paradise for hiking. There are routes outside the front door of the hotel. If you want to know something about the field, ask Mikel as he has a deep knowledge about ainsa and the countryside.
If you have the option of volunteering with Mikel and Marion, I recommend you go to them. This is a wonderful place and I think you'll have a good time, I certainly did.

Ha sido un verdadero placer recibir a Fergus en mi casa, es una persona encantadora, trabajador, educado, buena predisposición, iniciativa y recursos para cualquier labor necesaria, he disfrutado compartiendo con él mi casa y mi familia.

Me quedé con Pilar durante dos semanas. Disfruté mi tiempo con ella. La habitación era buena, una cabaña con una cama doble, un escritorio, armarios y una radio. La comida era buena y siempre más que suficiente.

El trabajo estaba en el jardín. Un poco difícil a veces pero nunca demasiado. Pilar siempre decía: "Poco a poco".

Me quedé con Mario y Clara durante aproximadamente 11 semanas, la madre estaba ocupada en Alicante y visitó muchas veces. Esta fue su primera vez como anfitriones de Workaway y son naturales. Desde la primera reunión, fueron acogedores (un letrero escrito a mano en las puertas de las habitaciones que me dieron la bienvenida y a los otros dos… read more voluntarios fue un buen detalle), amables, serviciales y entusiastas. Cuando la familia (hola Clara y Arron) o amigos nos visitaron, los voluntarios siempre estaban incluidos en las actividades.

El alojamiento era bueno, un dormitorio acogedor, una buena cama con excelentes vistas desde la habitación. La comida era muy buena y abundante. La cocina estaba disponible para que los voluntarios la usaran como quisieran y siempre estaba completamente equipada. La casa es una hermosa casa con mucho espacio y buenas instalaciones. La casa es como la descripción en sus perfil.

El trabajo fue de mantenimiento general. Trabajé en una variedad de proyectos: construcción / reparación de cercas, construcción de muros, limpieza de terrenos, poda de pinos, pintura, etc. El trabajo siempre fue justo y nunca excedió las 5 horas por día.

La zona, a 600 metros del pueblo de Abdet, es una hermosa región montañosa. Si te gusta el senderismo, está lleno de excelentes senderos, el paisaje es paradisíaco.
Recomiendo ser voluntario con Clara y Mario a cualquier voluntario de Workaway, disfruté enormemente de mi tiempo con ellos y creo que será lo mismo para ti.

Una nota: Mario y Clara son fumadores y es mejor que tengas un teléfono con datos para la red.

I stayed with Mario and Clara for approximately 11 weeks, the mother was busy in Alicante and visited many times. This was their first time as Workaway hosts and they are natural. From the first meeting, they were welcoming (a handwritten sign on the doors of the rooms that welcomed me and the other two volunteers was a nice touch), friendly, helpful and enthusiastic. When the family (hello Clara and Arron) or friends visited us, the volunteers were always included in the activities.

The accommodation was good, a cozy bedroom, a good bed with excellent views from the room. The food was very good and plentiful. The kitchen was available for volunteers to use as they wanted and was always fully equipped. The house is a beautiful house with lots of space and good facilities. The house is like the description in their profile.

The work was general maintenance. I worked in a variety of projects: construction / repair of fences, construction of walls, cleaning of grounds, pruning of pines, painting, etc. The work was always fair and never exceeded 5 hours per day.

The area, 600 meters from the village of Abdet, is a beautiful mountainous region. If you like hiking, it is full of excellent trails, the landscape is paradisiacal.

I highly recommend volunteering with Clara and Mario to any Workaway volunteer, I enjoyed my time with them enormously and I think it will be the same for you.

One note: Mario and Clara are smokers and it is better that you have a phone with data for the network.

A great place to volunteer. I highly recommend this host to other volunteers. I helped on the farm; watering, feeding hens, collecting eggs, weeding, maintaining swimming pool and other small jobs that needed doing.
