Description
Hello! My name is Fanny and I’m a 24 year old Canadian. I’m looking to go to southern Europe in the fall. I'm really interested in Madeira, Spain, Italy and Greece. I would also love to head north around December to see some northern lights!
I currently live in Montreal, having just finished my Bachelors degree in Political Science at McGill in fall 2023. I am working full time for the Canadian Armed Forces until the fall, after which I’m looking to get out of the rat-race that is the academic world and travel for a while.
I love to work with horses, and have been riding since I was 11. Otherwise, I also like music and martial arts. I enjoy playing guitar & singing, and I'm debating if I'll bring my guitar! (& will of course be respectful of quiet hours) .
I like training in martial arts and keeping fit; I did some Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in high school, and Krav Maga once I moved to Montreal. I’d love to train if possible during my travels.
I also like the mountains! I haven’t had much chance for hiking in the past few years, but I did some weekend hiking trips in high school, and some hikes in the rockies/provincial parks and really enjoy it. Its in my goals to go hiking in the alps/dolomites (probably next summer) and more.
A bit about my work experience:
- I have worked in multiple different horse ranches/stables, with varying levels of responsibility;
- I have been a ranch hand taking care of mucking out, feeding and turning out the horses, etc;
- I have been a volunteer day-camp leader for kids riding camps
- I have worked as a trail guide for a dude ranch, leading groups of up to 5 guests alone, or up to 12 guests with another guide, in a provincial park (the ranch actually hosted workawayers, which is how I discovered it)
- I have also experience in the service industry, having worked in restaurants ranging from family-style to mid/high end, winery restaurants, and cafés from 16 to 19 years old.
- I have worked for the Canadian Armed Forces since 2019
I am a quick learner and love learning new skills. I am not afraid of hard physical work, and find gratification in accomplishing manual tasks and a job well done. I am a good team player, but am also capable of working independently and reliably.
I would also like to learn, gain, and contribute more manual skills, whether it be carpentry, yard work, welding, and really anything you can teach me. I am a quick and eager learner. I would also love to learn yoga, how to surf, how to sail (& upkeep a sailboat), & more. I would also love to learn new languages! I spoke an intermediate level spanish that is a bit rusty, but I'm sure would come back quickly with some practice; I'd love to become fluent.Interests

Snapshot of my riding skills:
I've mainly ridden English, a mix of dressage and jumping, and would deem myself an intermediate rider. More technically, I can do simple changes of leads and was working on my flying changes when I stopped taking regular lessons. The highest I’ve jumped was 2ft9. I have worked on turns on the haunches/forehand, half pirouettes, and collection. I can ride bareback, although I’ve never jumped bareback. When I worked as a trail guide, I would spend 4+ hours in the saddle per day. I have not ridden regularly in 4 years, but have no doubt it would not take long for the rust to come off.Age
