  • Description

We're Eva and Jelmer, a Dutch couple and more than five years happily together. Currently we're cycling through Europe (Netherlands to Greece and making our way back). This is our second cycling journey and we love it! We love the way we challenge ourselves fysically and mentally. We love to interact with all the different people and experience all their goodness and hospitality. Apart from cycling, we like to spend our time in nature, go hiking, watch movies, play games. We both like food very very much.

Our goal is to live minimalistic, have a small ecologic footprint and be good to other people. We try to learn as much about sustainability as we can, so we can use this in our own lives.

We're both hardworking people and very eager to learn in all sorts of fields. This is probably the main reason for our subscription for Workaway. Jelmer has some experience in gardening/vegetable garden, but wants to learn more about it. Eva is good with her hands, and her dream is to learn more about construction/building. We hope to learn some of these things, but if we learn something else instead, we are very happy as well!

Jelmer was a financial administrator in the social field, but quitted this in 2022. It was an interesting job, but the '9 til 5 life' wasn't really his thing. Jelmer is pure, down to earth, very loyal and a perfectionist. Besides that he's a caring person, who tries to think about other people.

Eva is a doctor and is about to do her specialization in Radiology which starts in April 2024. She is really looking forward to it, but there are also many other things to discover in life. Eva is a easy going, no nonsense, hands-on kind of person. Besides that she's honest and willing to help people.

    Why workaway:
    - To experience a country in a different way, when staying in one place for a longer period
    - To see how other people live their lives and be inspired by it
    - To learn new things like gardening, building/constructing, animalcare, language, culture, food etc.
    - To get a break from cycling
    - To feel usefull
    - To really get to know people, rather than the short interactions you have while cycle-touring

  • More details about your skills

    Eva:
    - I don't have a lot of experience in constructing or building, but I'm good with my hands and I pick up these things very easily. I did some stuff in renovating, such as painting walls and ceilings, hang up a shelf, hang up paintings, laying floors.
    - As far as gardening I have experience in maintaining our own garden by weeding, pruning, cutting the grass.
    - I grew up with a lot of different animals in and around the house (dogs, cats, horse, ginnypigs, rabbits) and my parents taught me to love them and take good care of them.
    - Since I like food very much, I also like to cook a nice vegetarian dish.
    - I'm an aunt for more than 10 years and I love to spend time with children.

    Jelmer:
    - I grew up with the vegetable garden of my father. When I was younger I'd help sometimes, but was not really interested. Getting older I got more interested and also had my own vegetable garden. I really liked it and learned a lot, but I'm eager to learn much more about it. Besides that I have experience in maintaining a garden.
    - I don't only like to grow crops, I also like to cook and try new vegetarian recipes from different cuisines.
    - I grew up with cats, rabbits and chickens and learned to take good care of them. Besides that I like all kinds of animals.
    - Building and construction is something I have not a lot of experience in, but I'm eager to learn more about it.
