I will be starting a 6 month trip across Asia and Europe in May 2025! I'm keen to get out in nature, try different foods, learn about the history of and culture of a place and make friends.
My next destination:

Kia ora! My name is Erin and I hail from the beautiful land of Aotearoa New Zealand.
A bit about me:
I'm 26, grew up in the stunning Bay Of Islands region and currently live in Auckland. I would describe myself as a friendly and cheerful person, and I try to show kindness and empathy in everything I do. I am super passionate about the environment and have spent the last four years working in the conservation sector as a coordinator for a sustainability charity. Projects that protect our natural spaces and restore biodiversity are my happy place, and through my job I have been super privileged to work on all sorts of awesome programmes. Some of my favorites have included reforestation efforts and invasive species control, community engagement on climate change, environmental education for children, circular economy initiatives and a whole range of eco-events across Auckland. Connecting with people in my local community and learning about our amazing native ecosystems has definitely been the top highlights of the role. I would be super interested to learn about the ecology in your country!
Outside of work, I have plenty of other passions that keep me busy - I am a keen dancer, love hiking and swimming outdoors, and will always jump at the chance to play a good board game or try out different places to eat. I am a big foodie and an even bigger coffee lover, and I would be fascinated to learn about your cultural dishes and food traditions. Travel has also been a long-time love of mine, and I've been very lucky to visit some amazing places across Asia, Europe and the Pacific Islands. Experiencing different cultures and perspectives has changed and enriched my life so much, and has given me a lifetime curiosity of the world around me.
As much as I love New Zealand and my day job, this curiosity has been steadily growing and I found myself wanting to see and experience more of the big wide world. So this year, I decided to take a leap and embark on a 6 month trip across Europe and Asia staring in June 2025. It's taken a lot of courage to commit to and I'm still quite nervous about making such a big change, but I'm also super excited for what's to come. I'll mostly be going solo, but will also be meeting up with friends and family along the way. I decided to join Workaway as a way to meet others, open my mind to different ways of life and give back to the communities and land I visit. I would love to learn from you and contribute what I can.

I find languages fascinating, so I would love to learn a few words in your native language. I have taught conversational English before, so am happy to practice English with you if you like. I have a university degree in Japanese to an intermediate level, although it has been many years since I have used it regularly, so I am a bit rusty! I am learning beginner Spanish and will be visiting Spain in my travels, and I would love to learn from any Spanish speakers. I also know a little Māori, the indigenous language of Aotearoa/New Zealand. I'd be more than happy to share more about Māori language and culture with you if this is of interest :)Skills and knowledge I'd like to share or learn

More details about your skills
I was lucky enough to grow up with a mother who worked as a gardener, so I have a good grasp of
vegetable gardening, garden maintenance, composting and worm farms, and how to look after plants. I know my way around gardening tools and can use a chainsaw. My father was a woodwork teacher for many years and built our family home, so I am no stranger to helping out with DIY projects. I enjoy art and painting, so am happy to help out with decorating projects as well.
Through my work at an environmental not-for-profit I have picked up a fair bit of knowledge around sustainable practices and ecosystem biodiversity. While my conservation knowledge is quite specific to New Zealand, I have some experience in the principles of things like regenerative and riparian planting and controlling invasive species.
I am a quick learner and happy to apply myself to new things, so feel free to let me know your ideas.Age

What else ...
Some of my other interest include scuba diving, tv shows and movies, sci fi and fantasy novels, crosswords and puzzles, Dungeons & Dragons and history documentaries/podcasts.
Some other things to note might be that I can cook a great curry, I'm LGBTQ+ friendly, and enjoy my quiet wind-down time of an evening. I'm not a big drinker or partier, more of a hot chocolate and conversation by the fire type :)Some more information
