Hi there! I’m Erica — a creative maker, thoughtful community member, and lover of the outdoors. I grew up in Norfolk, Virginia and have spent the past 5 years living in Brooklyn, NY. I am quitting my job in July ahead of going to graduate school for design in the fall. I absolutely love upstate NY and New England in the summer and am feeling very grateful and excited for the opportunity to help out with gardening, farming, animals, building projects etc. in my time before going back to school.

I studied sustainability undergrad and enjoy any chance to learn more about our ecosystems and how we fit into them. My favorite book is Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. I’m also a maker of stained glass windows and other design hobbies. I love food and cooking.

I’m independent and also thoroughly enjoy building new connections. I’ll be studying/immersed in design projects over the next few years and imagine it would be nice to have connections from workaway this summer that might be relevant in the future too. I’m also just happy to disconnect, be hands on, and have a change of speed this summer.

Let’s see… I can cook with a recipe and have fun in a kitchen. Food flows into my hobbies as well -- I do pancake-ball pop-up every few months in Brooklyn and draw out monthly animated recipe flipbooks.

I’ve helped out in gardens and landscaping backyards and am confident in my ability to do those outdoor tasks. I’m good with animals. I’m slowly learning how to identify trees.

I’m a hands-on-learner and am familiar with different making-mediums across stained glass, clay, wood, painting, drawing, animation, and sewing.

I studied global sustainability and social entrepreneurship and have had a career so far in some nonprofits and in business doing UX design.
