Hello!

My name is Emmamaja. I would describe myself as a happy, social, and positive person who is incredibly curious about the world around me and open to learning new things. I find it extremely rewarding to put myself in situations where I know there is an opportunity for growth. I am proactive and full of enthusiasm. I love traveling, meeting new people, and learning about other cultures. Additionally, I am also passionate about climate and sustainability.

Being active makes me happy, and I love spending time in nature. I enjoy hiking, spending time by and in the ocean, climbing, kayaking, watching sunrises and sunsets, and going on overnight trips. Furthermore, I enjoy being around friends. My biggest hobby is exploring the local area wherever I am, and I actively seek out various cultural experiences.

I am motivated by making a difference for others, which is why I also dedicate time to volunteer work and have previously been involved with different NGOs.

For many years, I have considered joining Workaway, but only recently have I gathered the courage. I think it is an incredibly exciting way to travel and experience the world, and during my trips, I hope to learn new skills and spend more time in nature. I have a particular fascination and longing for Norwegian culture and nature, and I wish to learn more about it. This summer, I did a Workaway with a family in Lofoten, where I contributed to the daily work around the house and on the farm. We built, painted, picked berries, fished, removed weeds, and much more. It was an amazing experience, and this time I dream of starting seedlings and working with animals, especially sheep. I am really looking forward to experiencing the Norwegian countryside again during the spring.

Since moving out from home, I have lived in different communities with diverse people, which has taught me how to take responsibility, collaborate, and adapt to new situations. I enjoy being part of a team, contributing where I can, and learning from others.

I studied pedagogy for 1.5 years, gaining experience in inclusion, special education, and relationship-building, and I have also worked as a disability assistant, which strengthened my patience, empathy, and problem-solving skills. I have practical experience from working in cafés and as a waiter, where I learned teamwork, communication, and how to stay calm under pressure.

I love spending time outdoors and being active. I attended a folk high school where I explored yoga, kayaking, crafts, and outdoor life, which deepened my connection to nature and broadened my interests. During the winter of 2023-2024, I visited a Norwegian farm several times, gaining hands-on experience with sheep farming, vegetable cultivation, operating tractors, and caring for animals. I especially love working with sheep and dream of helping during lambing season.

I also hold kayaking and K1 climbing certificates, reflecting my love for adventure and being in nature. I approach practical tasks with energy and curiosity, and I am excited to contribute, learn, and grow through hands-on experiences on farms and in nature.
