Description
Hi, our names are Eltina and Victoria. We’re great friends who live in the Netherlands, and love learning, working with our hands, exchanging stories, and laughing with new people. We have been talking about doing a Workaway together for well over a year, and are now fighting hard to make it happen before Victoria moves back to Singapore in June!

I (Eltina) live in the Netherlands. I love meeting with friends, working out at the gym, and reading good books. I also really enjoy being out in nature, for example to go on a hike. In 2022 I travelled through Europe for a year, doing a lot of fun workaways in different countries (please note that the reviews are also from that time). This was a great experience where i got to know so many amazing human beings and got to work on fun projects. I cannot wait to be experiencing this once more!

I (Victoria) grew up in big city Singapore, and have lived in Norway, Australia and the Netherlands in the last 10 years. In my adventures, I have enjoyed meeting and talking with people from different walks of life the most, and have learnt so much about culture, norms and myself through it. Hobby-wise I am simple: I love food, wine, fun, laughs and conversations! I also love crafts including anything with paper, glass, clay, paint, wire, fabric, rope or yarn. There is a special and simple joy that comes from knowing you did it yourself that keeps me going and wanting to learn more.

Vic: I have lurked on YouTube watching videos on interior design, furniture flipping, wood working, home DIYS and restoration for over a decade, and moving to the Netherlands allowed me to finally try some of what I’ve watched myself. I’ve installed shelves, puttied gaps in the wall, used a jigsaw, put up wallpaper, rewired an extension plug and put up lights for the first time while here, and I can’t wait to do and learn more on this Workaway!

Eltina: I have experience in gardening, and worked with different gardening equipment. In summer I have helped on a biological farm with planting/harvesting crops and weeding. During my previous Workaway experience i have worked on some building/renovating projects, this is something that i really enjoy doing and would like to get some more experience in. I have sanded, painted, did flooring, placed kitchens and insulated an attic. I even helped building an outdoor toilet haha.

If you have the opportunity to host Jacob & Eltina DON’T HESITATE!!! They stayed with me for almost 4 months and even then it was hard to say goodbye. It was the longest WorkAway that any of us ever had and it was completely unplanned…..we all just went with the flow and that in itself is a huge testament to how successful their stay here was. I… read more felt it was a privilege in every way….

Firstly, they are absolutely determined and meticulous workers who took on (what ended up being) a very difficult project fitting out a brand new kitchen and laundry room, among other things. This house is old and nothing is simple. What looked like one job at first (such as building and installing cabinets) ended up requiring numerous preparatory tasks and a GREAT DEAL of patience to achieve the right result. They both persisted with dogged determination and always with a smile on their faces despite what was thrown at them. Before they came, Jacob & Eltina told me that they had experience doing various carpentry and light construction projects but they are not “professional” or “skilled” tradespeople. Believe me when I say they are very modest and I don’t believe that “professionals” would have had the patience or commitment to do the same job to the high standard that Jacob & Eltina worked so tirelessly to achieve. I am an interior designer and have worked with numerous tradespeople over the years so I speak from a position of experience…

The biggest project they worked on was the new kitchen & laundry room. That required installing new flooring, plastering & painting, building & installing new cabinetry into some very difficult spaces and making a bespoke LED lighting system that I designed. There were A LOT of obstacles to overcome but they took it all in their stride and worked methodically. When necessary, they would research online to find novel solutions and then do whatever was needed to make it happen. One of the reasons they stayed so long was because they really wanted to complete this particular project before they left, even though it ended up being much bigger than any of us anticipated. I am so, so happy with the end result and so incredibly grateful for all their hard work and dedication.

There were many other projects they worked on while they were here including building an external stud partition wall, removing & replacing a small roof, fixing/repairing various things around the home and sorting and organising different areas. All of this and they still carried stuff to and from the house whenever needed, walked my dogs and went out of their way to be helpful whenever they could. Cooking in the evenings became a fun, group effort and we cooked some amazing meals together. Best of all, I got to enjoy their company and build a strong friendship with these beautiful, generous and kind-hearted people. I am so grateful they came to stay and we are already planning a future meet-up :-) Thank you sooooooooooooo much Jacob & Eltina for everything

They arrived on a transitional time for us at the end of the season and they adjusted very well to all the different tasks, from cleaning the rooms till the gardening . We had a great time in Himare. We had planned to stay for 10 days but ended up staying three weeks. Our job over here consisted of cleaning the rooms/apartments. Our plan was to stay with Caroline for 2 weeks, but we ended up staying more than a month in which we’ve grown really fond of Caroline and all her animals.
