Hi there,
my name is Mailin Drenkard, I am 20 years old and grew up in Überlingen, a lovely town by Lake Constance in Southern Germany. It is a beautiful place! Ever since I was little, my family and I have traveled a lot, and that definitely sparked my love for discovering new places, meeting people from different backgrounds, and diving into other ways of life.
After finishing school in 2023, I went traveling for seven months. A dream I had been holding onto for a long time. I explored Namibia, New Zealand, India, and Australia, and did lots of Workaway projects along the way. I absolutely loved the mix of helping out in different places and experiencing local life from a new perspective. What made this time truly special were the wonderful people I met, the inspiring stories I heard, and all the unexpected, special, and heartwarming moments.
Now I am living in Munich and studying Empirical Cultural Studies & European Ethnology as my major and Law as my minor — and I honestly love both. I find it so exciting to learn more about how people live, think, feel, and shape their everyday lives. Whether it is through traveling or studying, I am always curious about the stories behind things and about what connects us as human beings.
I am also very creative. I love painting, crafting, and designing. My mother runs a ceramics painting studio, and I learned from an early age how to paint ceramics. In addition, I attended a Steiner School, where we focused heavily on art, and that really shaped my passion for any form of artistic expression.
From July 2026 to December 2026, I will be spending a semester abroad at Macquarie University in Sydney. I will, of course, be focused on my studies during that time, but I would also love to do a Workaway project while I am there. I understand that working hours might need to be flexible on both sides, but the advantage is that I will be there for a full six months, not just a few weeks. By staying longer, I can really learn tasks that take time to master and even work in a shop or similar environment as a kind of regular team member, gaining deeper experience than would be possible in a short visit.
Ideally, the accommodation would be close to the university, as I will need to commute there every day.
I am someone who enjoys good conversations, exploring new ideas, and simply staying open to whatever life brings. Whether I am out in the world or at home in Munich, I always try to remain curious. I am very much looking forward to my next adventure!Interests

More details about your skills
I love to be outside since we have a big garden with fruit trees, beehives and my grandmother grows many different vegetables and berries. In class nine I also did a four-week farm experience in Northern Germany.
I went to a Steiner School/Waldorf School in my home town and there we learned many different practical skills.
In class eleven I worked in an old people´s home, in class ten I had the chance to do an exchange with a girl from New Zealand and I stayed at their place for four months.
Among lots of others these were all very amazing experiences and they helped me to grow.
I am happy to help wherever I can, to get in contact with the people, learn something about the culture, the nature , artistic skills and from your place in general.Age
