  • Description

    Hello there,

In my day to day life I go by Cosmi, but you can also call me by my full name - Cosmina. Originally from the northen part of Romania, I've spent the past decade living in the Czech Republic, where I first arrived through an Erasmus exchange in my mid 20s.

This year has been one of significant changes - in June I resumed my (home)office job, packed my things and decided to go traveling. I started right at home in Romania, volunteering with Workaway at a permaculture farm and at the site of a music festival. Then in September I continued with Workaway in Italy, where the volunteering experience had been a mixed of things, more of less positive.

However, I am back on track and at the moment wishing to continue this traveling journey in Portugal and perhaps even in Spain.

A few words about me, just to paint a general picture: I'm agreeable (the non-violent communication theory helps here), curious, more or less intentionally funny and (like most millennials) kind of anxious.

I carry a mat with me, but not for sleeping on it or for yoga - I like doing Pilates every day, if possible. And always willing to answer the question: what is the difference between yoga and Pilates? (though you might not find the answer satisfying)
Having lived in Czechia for so long, a country known not only for its beer, but also for the best trail marking system in Europe, it means I've also learned to enjoy hiking. And Nordic walking is what I wish to try next. :)

But no worries, I'm also good at being sedentary cause I keep buying books (challenging myself with reading in Czech sometimes) and testing various meditation techniques - I actually enjoy guided meditations led by inspiring teachers.

My background - if relevant here - is in Environmental Engineering, with a master in Journalism. However, things took a different turn professionally once I decided to remain in the Czech Republic as what could be called an ''expat''. Perhaps this is the reason why I've been interested in the topic of community, belonging and the expat life (I had a few writing contributions to two local expat publications). I would say that I am at the point of my life where I see belonging as connecting to nature, to yourself and to people and this is my focus when looking for a Workaway project to join.

I could go on and on, but I will stop here. The rest is a too long autobiography. (More about me in the ''What skills do you have?'' section)

  • More details about your skills

I enjoy being in the kitchen and learning new recipes. I also have an eye for cleaning & tiding up & organizing the place.

As a long-term volunteer, I had an EVS (European Voluntary Service) in Iceland, where I was responsible for the implementation of environmental policy in 3 hostels and one campsite. That was an opportunity to familiarize myself with waste sorting and eco management, though I have tackled these aspects during my bachelor studies as well.

I have behind a 2 weeks volunteering experience in permaculture - helping with setting up the irrigation system, weeding & harvesting. Also experience in cooking big meals for large groups of people.

Over the years, I have volunteered for various local organizations, complementing my 9 to 5 job - from working in a café for people with physical disabilities, to tasks such as stone stacking, fence building, stone pavement construction, gardening, looking after the compost, collecting wood and even horse grooming.
