  • Description

    UPDATE:
I've been in Puerto Rico now for 4 months now and plan to stay for at least another couple months. I've cleaned for airbnbs and tour companies, worked random hospitality jobs and volunteered on a few farms, mostly through verbal agreements. I've learned a lot about what people are looking for in these jobs and have made so many amazing connections. I plan to study Spanish in San Juan in April and hope to find another home or business to work for and study part time.

I've lived on a secluded island in the Pacific Northwest, with my family, for almost all 19 years of my life, and although I have traveled quite a bit, I need to broaden my horizons elsewhere and alone. Having the privilege to explore the natural and social world and form my own opinions growing up, I've found myself questioning the systems rooted in our societies and the perceived image of success and health they feed, as well as the injustice riddled throughout. I've become very passionate about sustainable agriculture and believe it is one of the most important areas of work, especially when combating climate and social justice. Taking agricultural classes and working at a local Organic farm, I have found a lot of peace and joy providing for the community and land. It is so full filling to utilize and see positive effects from something you've put so much care into creating. I try to enter experiences with an open mind and a willingness to learn and grow. I am not the most forward person automatically but I love to connect with people and think we can learn a lot from one another. I'm 19 and at this point in my life I feel the need to explore different places and have new experiences. I also feel the need to grow and create as an individual and member of the broad world community. I find a lot of joy using my hands and body, planting, harvesting, building, caring for, and creating all sorts of art. I love to be in nature working hard and getting dirty.

  • More details about your skills

I have some experience working on an Organic Farm in WA for some time and have learned a lot through agricultural/environmental studies and social/environmental activism. I have worked in the service industry since I was 16, dish washing, bussing, hosting, and cleaning, gaining a lot of important skills and becoming an more active and independent member of society. A lot of the work I've done has been fast paced and physically active, teaching me to hone in, focus, learn quickly and be physically prepared for the tasks at hand. Being present and intentional in my work is something I find very important, working as a preschool teacher, nanny, and farmer has especially opened my eyes to this. It's also helped me recognize the importance of slowing down sometimes and finding joy in the work you're doing. I know any place I go there will be a learning curve but I am prepared and love to take on new things and challenge myself.
