My next destination:
California, United States - from Jul 2024 until Oct 2024 View allDescription
I love to explore. From the first time I rode my bike out of my neighborhood as a child, I've loved the feeling of seeing new things and stretching my boundaries. As an adult, my bike became a plane and I've been able to explore other countries, cultures, and cuisines. I enjoy the variety found in the world and I love that I could never be able to see all of it in one lifetime. There will always be more.
A friend told me about Workaway seven years ago and I've wanted to do it ever since. An associate director job I couldn't resist delayed me, but now I'm here and looking forward to meeting new people, learning old history, tasting incredible foods, and seeing beautiful sights.
I'm hoping I can help others using my experience as an English and Math school teacher, human resources associate director, house owner, landlord, writer, newsletter editor, outreach coordinator, and much more.
My name is Chandler, and I look forward to meeting you!Interests

I have taught English grammar to American teenagers (that grew up speaking English), love writing, have about five pieces that were published in North American and worldwide publications, and enjoy the process of teaching. I'm hoping that as part of the experience I get in new countries and regions that I will learn a little of the language there as well!Skills and knowledge I'd like to share or learn

I'm gifted with writing and with the English language (I've written articles for several magazines and a few with worldwide circulation for adults and teenagers), love to meet and work with people, enjoy teaching, am professional, careful, clean and organized, a hard worker and am told I have a dry sense of humor. I have fixed stuff around my house, done some minor electrical work, painted the inside of houses many times, done some masonry, gardening, lots of yard work, computer troubleshooting, carpentry, decking, and more.
I have a degree in Language Arts with an emphasis on Elementary Education. In my college years I loved working with kids at camps in the United States, and was a substitute teacher and middle school Math and English teacher (ages 12 - 14ish) after I received my education degree. I am currently (through 2025) background check verified twice over. This means I've been cleared to work with children as a company has verified I don't have any criminal issues in my past and I've received some training in signs of child abuse and neglect.
Over the years, my career took me into the field of retirement and Human Resources. I spent seven years working with retirement applications for a private employer, then into the role of managing benefits for seven years at the world headquarters office for that same employer. I took a year long break to travel, but was offered an Associate Director of Human Resources job at the same organization upon my return where I've been for over seven years. My last day will be around mid-May 2024.Age

What else ...
Many hosts have expressed an interest in learning about new cultures from their workawayers. I hope that even with movies displaying the American culture (though not always accurately), I can share about my country and the cultures and sub-cultures here. I have lived in the Washington, D.C. area most of my life and can speak to life in this capital city. I've also lived in Texas and Michigan and have travelled to nearly all 50 US states. I spent substantial amounts of time in New Zealand, Australia, and Canada and have visited about 18 other countries, many in the Caribbean.
I love to hike, jog regularly, explore, try new foods, meet new people, see new sights.
I don't drink alcohol/wine, smoke, or do any drugs/marijuana.
I am fully vaccinated/boosted with the latest Covid vaccine (shot received late-October 2022), and have had other vaccinations as were required growing up in the US and traveling abroad. Some more information
