Andrew here, your not so average backpacking, roadtrip loving, music making, clumsy scotsman!

Originally from the (south western) Scottish Highlands and nowadays residing in the Dutch lowlands, you can often find me socialising with new and known people, fixing things I may or may not have broken (...), working on a classic car, making the most of a untuned piano and inadvertently putting a smile on your face.

Recently I chose to take hold of my dreams and goals and bring them one step closer, instead of constantly drooling and fantasising. Meeting new people and learning new languages, exploring the unknown and making the most of what little time we have in a day. These are things I hold dear to me and am getting back to after many years of being preoccupied with the other gestures of life.

Besides my clumsy and quirkyness, I have kept myself busy the past few years.

While studying shipbuilding in all senses of the word (practical and theoretical), I took it upon me to buy an old motoryacht and make it my home. This was no easy task, as it was already sold to the scrappers!
Rust spots were cut out and new steel was welded, wiring was redone to restore power to old and new electronics, the engines were partially taken apart, checked over and rebuilt, and the interior was extensively gutted and replaced.
After all this was done, I had to teach myself how to sail the darn thing 😂 but all in all it was a success, and my home for a few years.

Another project I’ve had my heart close to is driving and restoring a 1965 Cadillac. With it’s smooth leather interior and chrome bezelled lights, technically alot has been done to the car to maintain it’s reliability and practicality. It’s a joy to be able to cruise along in such a time machine, as it puts a smile on everyones face who lays eyes on it.

Besides these two projects, I’m often helping friends with diy home projects, helping my dad and best friend out in their fruitful gardens, and also helping out with restoration work on an old lightship come British pub where I occasionally work!!

What else ...

Besides all things technical, I am a big culture nerd.
Learning new languages, sharing experiences based on cultural differences and wisdom gained along the way. History too, may that be of a family’s roots to why they are all over the world or perhaps how politics and war have impacted the region, I’m all ears.

Music and film gets me excited too. Though maybe not the best, I am a fond piano player who has much appreciation for those tunes we hear on the radio.

Other interests of mine are; everything Sci-fi, home cooking, (urban) exploring, swimming, hiking and photography.
