Hi there! I'm Akmaral (or you can call me Aka as my friends do) Im from Kazakstan, originally from little town Aqtau next to the Caspian Sea, but right now I live in Almaty on the south of Kz. Although I’m quite timid, introverted person, still I have always been an adventurous, easy-going, open-minded person, eager to explore new places and cultures, meeting new people, listening stories of others about their travel journeys. So experiencing Workaway projects allowed me to break out of my comfort zone, to learn new skills, and create unforgettable memories.
My journey with Workaway began in 2019 when I first started traveling abroad. I didn't want to simply be a tourist, the idea of just seeing some famous spots and leaving didn’t really look appealing to me. I wanted to get to know local people's lifestyle more, and try to make at least little impact in the communities I visited. That's when I discovered Workaway and the concept of cultural exchange through volunteering. I have always been drawn to the idea of connecting with people from all over the world and learning from their unique experiences. I believe it's a powerful way to broaden our perspectives and break down stereotypes.
I had my first Workaway experience in Istanbul, Turkey where I stayed in a local hostel and helped them with administrative and reception positions. where got the chance to meet other volunteers and guests from around the world. And even on our free time from volunteering hours, we continued to keep up with each other, exploring the city together as a group. Another volunteering experience was in Kutaisi, Georgia where along with other volunteers we helped out in the hostel for new opening season. I loved exploring Georgian cuisine and hiking in the reomote beautiful countryside places. I also Workawayed in Budapest, Hungary where in hostel I helped with reception and organizing social events for guests. where I had the chance to explore other countries of East Europe on my days off.
P. S. 2025
my recent workaway project was in Sri Lanka, where I stayed 3 month volunteering as a yoga instructor and photoghrapher, which I enjoyed so much, as these are my main two favourite things to do, and combing them with travelling was very fulfilling experience for me!Interests

What else ...
I have a lot of hobbies, but I don’t limit myself and open to find out new interests.
So far I like photography, yoga, bouldering, traveling, learning new languages, journaling, reading, chess, bicycling, hiking, practicing mindfulness and meditation, attending concerts and music festivals, watching documentary films, and spending quality time with friends and family.
Aside from yoga and bouldering, I enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. Being in nature grounds me and brings me a sense of peace. Whether it's hiking, camping, or simply taking a walk in the park, I find solace in spending time in nature.
I also have a strong passion for photography. I love capturing the beauty and diversity of the places, and through my photos, I hope to inspire others to explore and appreciate different cultures. Some more information

It’s quite rare for us to have three volunteers at the same time, but since there were more people, there was less work to do. I think Akmaral probably worked only about one to two hours a day.
