Hi! I'm Alice, I'm taking a sabbatical year starting from October 2024, I plan on travelling throughout Europe by train before stopping for a while in Spain to learn Spanish. I've always loved travelling and learning about different cultures. I used to live in China when I was a child and I attended an international school all the while travelling a lot with my family in different countries. I now want to be able to travel, discover new things, new skills and people on my own. I love being dynamic and meeting new faces. I'm very active/engaged with my scouts group at home, which also means that I love being in nature, around animals and kids!

More details about my language interests
I've already learned a bit of Spanish but I have had almost no practice in speaking it. I'd love to learn more be able to be more at ease with it. I find it to be a beautiful language. As for teaching, I could speak English or French or come up with some activities. However, I wouldn't teach about grammar rules, they're my mother tongues and therefore I juste know it, I don't really know the "reasons why" and the rules.

I've babysat a lot. I spent a year as a scout leader for 5 to 8 year olds and another year with 8 to 12 year olds. I've worked in private events as a waitress and other small roles. I'm very athletic and quite strong. I've been doing Krav Maga for 3 years. I'm very meticulous and precise. I've helped my dad a lot in the reparations and repainting of his sailboat. I have basic but good cooking and baking skills. I've always loved and been quite good with animals.

This was one of my first Workaways and it did not disappoint. Marcos and Maria are very welcoming and open to sharing and discussions. There were so many oppurtunities to learn so many different things, whether it's concerning climate change, the region and country, politics, art (especially flow-arts), music, food, plants and vegetation, etc...… read more If you are truly aware of the climate crisis and the reality of our situation, and you are tired of not having people realise and accept it, then I recommend going for a stay with them, it's refreshing to be around people taking it seriously. The house is filled with animals, especially dogs so it can get a bit chaotic, but if you love (like I do) and are comfortable around animals, then its mostly a bunch of fun with them. I especially want to make a point of how delicious the food was, and as a vegetarian it gave me many ideas for some new recipes and the use of new ingredients. Thank you again for all the moments shared together, I would have loved to be able to speak more Spanish to be able to contribute more to discussions. :)

Este fue uno de mis primeros Workaways y no me decepcionó. Marcos y María son muy acogedores y están abiertos a compartir y conversar. Tuvimos muchísimas oportunidades de aprender cosas diferentes, ya sea sobre el cambio climático, la región y el país, política, arte (especialmente flow-arts), música, gastronomía, plantas y vegetación, etc. Si eres realmente consciente de la crisis climática y de la realidad de nuestra situación, y estás cansado de que la gente no lo entienda y lo acepte, te recomiendo alojarte con ellos; es refrescante estar rodeado de gente que se lo toma en serio. La casa está llena de animales, sobre todo perros, así que puede ser un poco caótico, pero si te gustan (como a mí) y te sientes cómodo con los animales, la verdad es que es muy divertido. Quiero destacar especialmente lo deliciosa que estaba la comida, y como soy vegetariana, me dio muchas ideas para nuevas recetas y el uso de nuevos ingredientes. Gracias de nuevo por todos los momentos compartidos; me habría encantado hablar más español para poder participar más en las conversaciones. :)

C'était l'un de mes premiers Workaways et je n'ai pas été déçu. Marcos et Maria sont très accueillants et ouverts au partage et à la discussion. J'ai eu tellement d'occasions d'apprendre des choses très différentes, que ce soit sur le changement climatique, la région et le pays, la politique, l'art (surtout les flow-arts), la musique, la nourriture, les plantes et la végétation, etc. Si vous êtes vraiment conscient de la crise climatique et de la réalité de notre situation, et que vous en avez assez que personne ne la réalise et ne l'accepte, je vous recommande de séjourner chez eux ; c'est rafraîchissant d'être entouré de gens qui prennent la situation au sérieux. La maison est remplie d'animaux, surtout de chiens, donc l'ambiance peut être un peu chaotique, mais si vous aimez les animaux (comme moi) et êtes à l'aise avec eux, c'est surtout très amusant. Je tiens à souligner à quel point la nourriture était délicieuse, et en tant que végétarienne, cela m'a donné plein d'idées pour de nouvelles recettes et l'utilisation de nouveaux ingrédients. Merci encore pour tous ces moments partagés ! J'aurais aimé parler un peu mieux espagnol pour pouvoir contribuer davantage aux discussions. :)
