Description

Hey! Welcome to my page. My name is Alex. I was born and raised in Sydney, Australia but spent almost 2 years abroad living and working in Austria/ Österreich!

I am currently back in Sydney but plan on visiting Hamburg for 5-6 weeks from mid June, 2026. I don't necessarily want to find a "live in" Workaway experience, as I have accommdation already. However, I am interested in a couple of days a week doing something (volunteering, childcare, caring for animals, anything really!) mostly so I can practice my German speaking skills. :))

I used Workaway for the first time in the summer of 2023 in Austria. I worked in a small town near Salzburg in hospitality and thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Since then I have worked two winter seasons in Austria (not through Workaway) - one season working as a ski instructor for under 6y.o and one season working as an Au Pair for two girls under 12 y.o.

My second Workaway experience was with a lovely family in Hamburg, Germany in May, 2025. Happy to provide reviews :)

I am interested in practicing my German with you! I completed my A1 examination in 2024 and completed an A2 course when I lived in Innsbruck in 2025. My biggest weakness is definitely speaking so I would appreciate any time we can practice a little speaking!

Work / Study:
- I am a qualified personal trainer and have been working in the industry for 6 years. More specifically, I have experience working with pre and post natal women (I absolutely love my job!)
-Before I left Australia I also picked up a casual job as a Support Worker for elderly people. I assisted them with personal care, shopping, cooking and companionship.
- I have an associate degree in Science (Exercise and Sport). But am actually looking to return to studying.

In Austria:
- I have been working with kids for the last two winter seasons. Most recently I was working as an Au-Pair for a busy family who run 4 hotels in Tyrol in Austria. This has been a great experience and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know their two children (as well as a little sneak peak at the behind the scenes in hotel management and tourism etc!)
