  • Description

    Hello!

Every trip I have made in Western Canada has reinforced my dream of spending time exploring the mountains, seing wildlife, embracing Nature on a grand scale, enjoying this endless playground, without a return date or final destination. So I waited until the planets got properly aligned and here I am :-)

I left Quebec in early October (2023), drove across the country with a pickup full of my essential belongings and have been doing mainly house sitting since. I am using Trusted House Sitters and House Sitters Canada. I will be happy to share my reviews if you would like to read them.

So far I had to take care of the expected cats and dogs, but also many hobby farms. Lots of hens, some ducks, geese, sheeps, cows, goats and rabbits. They are a lot more fun than I was expecting. I even had to learn how to milk goats by hands, not as easy as it looks!

If you take the time to read my whole profile, you will find out that my work experiences and interests are highly diversified. I am confident that I can be of a great help for many of your projects/needs.

I am very calm, respectful, self-sufficient, considerate, creative and highly adaptive. I am curious by nature and love exploring/discussing different topics.

I don't do drugs of any kind and never get drunk (low tolerance to alcool), even though I enjoy trying out new IPAs and a glass of red wine with a nice meal. (I really like cooking btw)

In Quebec, I was earning my life doing small home renovation projects and running a somewhat virtual mountain biking retail business. I am still servicing my QC based clients.

Now my focus is on visiting areas where I can bike, hike and ski. I am exploring different regions, where I wish to meet the «locals», stay long enough to bring a significant contribution and plan on doing this until I find a place that I will feel like calling home.

May our paths cross, bringing an opportunity for celebrating life together!

    Alain

Here is a brief resume of my current and past professional occupations:

I am operating my own mountain biking products business (www.mtbconsultant.com) and most of my suppliers are happy to accommodate me by drop shipping to my clients.

For several years, I earned my life doing home renovation projects and I can do a lot of different things. I brought my favorite smaller tools with me and already did a few jobs on Vancouver Island this winter.

I did a trail building certification and love working on creating biking or hiking trails.

I have quite a bit of experience with a chainsaw, cutting trees, construction and of course preparing firewood.

I did manage a 16 door condo rental complex for 4 years.

I was a ranger for a large conservative area for two years. I had to go deep into the forest to conduct land surveys, monitor wild animal population, check on the roads and investigate potential infractions within the restricted territory.

I did work in factories and on large construction projects, so I had to operate heavy machinery.

I owned houses, so I am familiar with basic gardening, lawn care, getting ready for winter, snow clearing etc.

I grew up in a rural setting with a dairy farm across the street and was helping them on a daily basis so I am comfortable in that environment. I just did a hobby farm sitting involving 150 hens (keeping the eggs business running), 10 ducks, 2 gees and 2 rabbits.

I am well organized, efficient and a quick learner.

NOTE: If you have bigger renovation projects requiring trade skills that are exceeding what would be normally expected from a Workawayer, I am willing to discuss it and if we come to an agreement, my rate would be exceptionally affordable (In all fairness within the context).

  • What else ...

I think that mentioning all the good things that I can share and help with is a great start, but it is also important to express some things that could be a ''deal breaker'', just so we are maximizing our chances of experiencing a genuine good fit. :-)

I need a good Internet connection for my business and keeping in touch with family.

I thoroughly enjoy having conversations, listening to life stories, discussing ideas, fooling around and laughing, but I also regularly need moments of silence.. This means that I could not share bunk beds with a bunch of rowdy young world travelers ;-)

I will travel with my newly acquired 4x4 truck, packed with my favorite tools and some expensive sport equipment (bike, skis, snowshoes and specific clothing), so I will need a parking space and a bit of storage room.

    Au plaisir!
