Hello!
I am Aimie, a passionate traveler seeking enriching adventures through Workaway. My desire to explore new countries, immerse myself in diverse cultures, and revel in the world's breathtaking landscapes is a true source of inspiration for me.

After completing a master's degree in interior and set design, I felt a strong urge to engage in tangible projects that align with my core values. I am driven by the need to genuinely contribute to initiatives that have a positive impact on the environment. I am eager to channel my energy and skills into projects that champion causes close to my heart.

I have a strong inclination towards hands-on work and consider myself very crafty. During my academic journey, I had the opportunity to work with wood and clay in various student projects. By joining Workaway, I aim to experience the collective spirit of collaboration where I can engage in manual work.

The human aspect holds great significance to me. I am excited to meet like-minded individuals and work together to bring meaningful projects to life.

In terms of my skills and experience, I have gained valuable knowledge through various student jobs and activities. I have worked in animation, specifically with children in wilderness camps in the mountains. This experience taught me the importance of community living and introduced me to a different way of living and nourishing oneself, closer to nature.

I have also worked in sales and leisure, which provided me with a sense of organization and strong interpersonal skills. Additionally, I have hands-on experience in agriculture. Coming from the Champagne region, I participated in grape harvesting in Champagne vineyards multiple times, as well as working in beet fields. These experiences have taught me how to manage physical challenges and endure difficult weather conditions.

Furthermore, I have gained valuable skills through my work in the restaurant industry. I appreciate the importance of teamwork and have developed a strong sense of strict organization.

During my time at design school, I had access to a workshop that allowed me to work with wood using various tools and machinery. I have also created different materials using recycled paper, food waste, and reconstituted stone. I enjoy experimenting with different possibilities offered by various materials. Additionally, I have professional skills in 3D modeling software and drafting.

I believe that my diverse range of skills and experiences make me well-equipped to contribute effectively to projects and engage in meaningful work. I am eager to apply my knowledge and abilities to create positive impacts while collaborating with hosts through Workaway.

In addition to the information provided, there are a few other aspects I would like to mention. I have a deep sensitivity towards animals, and if a Workaway experience allows me to be surrounded by animals, it would be a dream come true. I have a strong desire to eventually open a sanctuary or farm where I can dedicate my time to caring for animals while also providing a welcoming space for travelers and performers. Although this personal project may take time to come to fruition, it reflects my passion for animal welfare and my long-term goals.

While it may not be directly relevant to this particular Workaway project, I am also deeply passionate about the performing arts. I have been involved in dance from a young age, and it has been a constant presence throughout my life. I pursued classical ballet at the conservatory for 15 years and achieved my Choreographic Studies Certificate. Additionally, I have experience in locking, an energetic dance style originating from the United States and performed to Funk music. I won a regional battle in this category during my teenage years, participated in a televised competition with my sister, and was even contacted by Ubisoft for the production of the game Just Dance.

Contemporary dance, for me, has become a means of artistic and physical expression, allowing me to explore the limits of the human body. In fact, this exploration of the body inspired my "designer conceptor" project during my bachelor's degree, where I created apparatus for circus performers at the National Center for Circus Arts (CNAC). In the future, I aspire to work as a freelance artist and offer my scenography skills in cultural projects involving circus artists, dancers, and performers.

While these additional details may not directly align with the specific Workaway project, they provide a broader understanding of my interests, passions, and long-term aspirations.

I had the incredible opportunity to spend six weeks at Thomas and Diamento's dog refuge in Lakkoma, between Kallikrateia and Thessaloniki, Greece, through the Workaway program.

My typical day at the refuge started at 6:30 am, where we began by feeding the dogs, providing clean water, and cleaning their enclosures. Morning tasks usually wrapped… read more up around 9:30 am, leaving me with free time until 3 pm, or sometimes 4 pm, when I spent about three hours taking the goats out. The schedule varied depending on the seasons and temperatures, with the added bonus of witnessing the breathtaking sunrise at the refuge and enjoying the sunset while with the goats.

Despite the large number of dogs (over 100), Diamento took the time to introduce me to each one's personality from my very first day. Throughout my stay, I frequently sought more details about the dogs and even the cats, and Diamento was always delighted to share their stories. Initially, the exuberance of the dogs might be overwhelming, but Diamento provided me with techniques to set boundaries. There are essential rules to follow due to the potential for accidents, given the competition among the dogs. However, spending time with the dogs helped me quickly understand and adhere to these rules. The dogs were all affectionate and sought human interaction, making them a joy to be around.

After completing morning tasks, I had the freedom to take the bus to explore the surroundings or stay at the refuge to walk, play, or groom the dogs. Personally, I enjoyed spending my days at the refuge, getting to know the dogs better and taking them for walks in the nearby village, Lakkoma, which had a small supermarket for any necessities. On weekends, I explored the surrounding areas, visiting coastal towns like Kallikrateia for a swim when the weather was warm and transitioning to Thessaloniki as temperatures dropped in November. This second-largest city in Greece offered opportunities for museums, shopping, and socializing in bars.

The second part of the day involved taking the goats out to graze. Initially, this occurred around 6 pm, adjusting to 3 pm after the daylight-saving time change. We started with the males, followed by the females. The only task was to prevent them from going onto the road or grazing on neighboring olive crops. With the males, it was always a humorous moment as they engaged in playful antics, while with the females, it was a more peaceful time watching them graze.

There was always food in the fridge, and Diamento consistently prepared homemade meals. What's fascinating, both in terms of food and overall experience, is that we discovered the non-touristy side of Greece, truly immersed in a small village. Diamento generously shared her recipes, and while attempting to recreate the chickpea soup back home, it never quite matched the flavor of Diamento's.

Lastly, I developed a deep connection with one of the dogs at the refuge, and Diamento and Thomas provided valuable advice and assistance in the adoption process. I look forward to returning in January to reunite with all the dogs, especially my little Cleo !
