Hello/Hola!
We’re two Aussie’s who’ve been working pretty hard at our careers and have decided it’s time for a hiatus and some adventure! We’re travelling/ vagabonding spontaneously around South America and are seeking slow and immersive travel where we can sink into cultures, live with locals and help offer our skills and enthusiam to help out! We are new to the workaway community, but are ever so excited to get involved!
We are starting our adventures in Chilean Patagonia and ending up in Columbia, until we leave for BOOM Festival in Portugal in July. We are open to any and all possibilities along the way!
We are easy-going, curious, playful, and open-minded. We enjoy connecting with people through interesting conversations, games and activities, and working towards a goal together. We are enthusiastic learners, and don't mind some "hard yakka" - a saying for hard work in Australia 💪🤠
In our down time, we enjoy exploring nature, hiking mountains, hanging out with animals, reading, drinking tea, relaxing and practicing some yoga.Interests

We are a couple with a passion for the environment and animals, and our work in Australia reflects this! Akala is a veterinarian and Brayden is a marine biologist 🐠🐶
Akala:
I work with dogs and cats mostly, and occasionally birds and pocket pets. I’ve enjoyed a lot of time volunteering on a wide range of farms with production animals for my studies - milking cows and sheep, bottle-feeding calves, herding animals, gardening, and driving ATVs, and spent a lot of my childhood helping out on my grandmother’s farm.
I've also worked on a fishing charter boat performing housekeeping duties between charters. I've moved houses a lot in my life, so I'm an efficient cleaner, and love to decorate!
I’m a quick learner, efficient, and have many creative abilities, and attention for detail. I’ve had many photography projects, and would especially enjoy some creating/building projects. One day we want to build our own van and tiny home!
Brayden:
I'm an all-rounder when it comes to practical skills. A large component of my work in marine science is a lot of creative problem solving and work with my different tools/systems. E.g. aquarium set-up/modification (lots of plumbing and hydrodynamics!), boat maintenance, and lab/research equipment repairs and maintenance. When something breaks at home or with my car, I often see it as an opportunity to learn how to fix it! I enjoy creative problem solving and working hard to achieve something together. I'm well-organised and great at planning. Perhaps most importantly, I like to make work fun and have a laugh.
We love to share knowledge and skills related to our interests in flow arts, health and fitness, yoga and meditation 🤸♀️Age

What else ...
We enjoy flow arts, which includes playing with circus props, and pulling off some impressive tricks with them! Even more fun combined with music and dancing! We have a hula hoop and contact juggling ball travelling with us 🤹♂️
We enjoy bouldering and rock climbing, hiking, swimming, playing card games and reading, among other things.
All of this might make us sound like crazy energetic people, but rest assured, we are actually very chill and peaceful people. We like our quiet time to recharge, and always respect yours ☺️Some more information

The day begins with a yummy breakfast and stretching/games, followed by 4hrs of work, which you have some choice over. The work is really engaging, we enjoyed learning some steps of making adobes, plus how to make a temazcal (native sweat lodge)… read more
The work was engaging and variable, including: picking cauchao, collecting seaweed and firewood, maintaining the greenhouses, cleaning and helping in the kitchen, and helping… read more
