  • Description

Dan and I have been living together for the past two years and have enjoyed spending lots of time outside, exploring, adventuring, and generally being amazed by the world around us. We are both very hard workers, love to learn and try new things, and are never afraid to get dirty.

I (Isabella) grew up in a small rural town in Western Massachusetts, where I spent lots of time outside. I attended Tufts University in Boston, MA where I studied human factors engineering and entrepreneurship, before working as a UX designer for Flux Marine, a company making electric outboards. During college, when the pandemic hit, I decided to take a year off and spend time learning in a different context and working outside. I worked on a farm in New Hampshire where I did everything from picking flowers and harvesting tomatoes to repairing hoop houses and deconstructing an old barn. After that, I spent 9 months in Puerto Rico working on a couple farms through WWOOF and doing a couple different Workaways. I've worked with lots of animals, done all aspects of farming and gardening, and done basic construction/repair work. I had an absolutely wonderful time and am excited to get back to more Workaways.

I love being outside and challenging myself with new projects. I'm always eager to learn something new and excited to work hard. In my free time I love hiking in the woods, Nordic skiing, cooking delicious food, and drawing. I'm fairly laid back but there's nothing I love more than a good adventure and a hard challenge. I enjoy meeting new people and sharing ideas and stories.

I (Dan) grew up in New Jersey, where I hike and camped with Boys Scouts around the state, and surfed and taught myself to sail at the Jersey Shore. I studied Geology and Biology at Brown University, then moved to California for a year, back to NJ for a year, and back to Rhode Island for the past 3 years. I've been working multiple contract jobs for NOAA Fisheries over the past few years, including Fisheries Observing, field survey work, data auditing and analyis, and research communications. I've spent around 200 days at sea and plenty of time behind computers. In years past, I often worked multiple seasonal jobs per year, including restaurant/dining hall work, construction and maintenance, large and small animal care, and customer and patient service jobs.

  • More details about your skills

I've spent quite a bit of time working on farms both in the northeast USA and in Puerto Rico, so I'm comfortable with gardening, weeding, planting, harvesting, etc. I love animals and have worked with goats, sheep, pigs, cows, chickens, ducks, and peacocks. In terms of construction projects, I'm comfortable around a shop working with tools (chop saw, table saw, drill press, etc.) as well as working outside with tools (chainsaw, hedge trimmer, shovels, hand tools, machete, etc.). I've also done some Earthbag construction and worked on building sets for theater performances. I've worked in an office and have a background in web development, so I would be happy to help with websites or anything of that type. I also spent some time working in a preschool and love kids. I enjoy getting my hands (and my boots) dirty and am excited to learn and work on whatever is needed.
