the Lodge is the first and only 5-star luxury Lesotho accommodation in Southern Africa. It is located in a pristine national park in the heart of this Incredible Mountain Kingdom. Maliba is only a 4.5hr drive from Johannesburg.
We have strong personal interest and association with the local basotho people especially those from the local villages in the vicinity of the lodge. One of the driving influences in establishing a world class tourist lodge in Lesotho was as a way of providing employment and upliftment of the local people and empower them through skills transfer to help make a change in this very poor country.
the lodge was built using mainly labor from local villages, at the peak nearly 100 local basotho’s were involved in the lodge construction and many had the opportunity to learn new skills. Now we are operating, the best of these staff have been retrained as Barmen, security, house staff, gardeners or maintenance people.
Help with Eco project
Travelers will benefit from interacting with the Basotho people and experiencing their culture . With plenty of projects going on year round we believe that every person can benefit in some way. Taking initiative and working side by side with locals and learning together is life changing. Passing on your skills and teaching people who haven't had the same advantages as you can be incredibly rewarding.
The Trust consists of representation from the local community and Maliba, and its goal is to identify, plan and finance projects that will help empower the local community.Guests are encouraged to contribute time, skills
Ideally we would love skilled tradespeople from any trade to help teach the local workers new skills and use initiative to take on board jobs such as construction, plumbing or electrical work around the lodge and possibly within the local community, schools or hospitals. We are looking to teach and empower our local workers with the skills and knowledge for them to become self sufficient and eventually pass on there newly found skills to the next generation and so on.
We run a range of projects that run year round, depending on the projects we have going at the time there are also other odd jobs such as general maintenance as well as the possibility for nurses, teachers, mentors and many other skills that would be required. Get in touch with us with what skills you can offer and we will try our best to accommodate when and if possible.
