    Description

    Hi All,
I have had travellers since early 2000's - that is 20 years. Most have been wonderful and now I have more need of help and certainly not the energy I had 20 years ago.
I have a large garden for vegetables and am starting to grow some flowers. I have chickens which I think bring the place to life. But I have tasks for travellers to do - not difficult ones, but time consuming ones - cutting up branches to the right size to become kindling in the pizza oven or for the inside fireplace in winter, ripping out as much as you can of the trancendentia weed and burning it and weeding everywhere else.
I do like to make soap out of plants in the garden , I like to cook but not that often. I like to grow from seed and I like to live in my own little world here in suburban Auckland.
I bake fresh bread for travellers, I have homemade preserves from fruit I have grown. You can share what ever I have and in return I ask, in exchange for a bed, a roof over your head and a bit of fresh food - 4.5 hours of work a day. Usually a week is long enough for travellers to buy a car, get a tax number, create a bank account and all that. There is a local Community garden close by that is interesting in terms of community ownership and they also need help during the busy summer months.
It seems to me that couples are the most suitable for me - they can entertain themselves. There is a food store close by plus a library, doctors, cafe and various other enterprises. Rail and bus transportation are very close by. I think this will be a nice gradual entry into NZ life, some help but not back breaking and sufficient free time to get your own tasks done.
    Karen

Mostly work is in the Spring and Summer. It may be preserving food from the garden, it may be weeding, it may be making skin creams from various herbs and flower, or making natural soaps so we can make money to progress the garden. After winter there is preparing of vegetable beds, adding compost and one god awful job of digging out the chicken pen so the goodness can be composted or put on the garden. There may be painting or staining of fences too - depends on the weather. If you like it - cleaning and organising inside would be a big help. There may also be work at the local community garden.

We are close to west coast beaches of the North Island. We have a good community with local facilities of Drs, library, cafe and supermarket.
I provide breakfast but travellers supply and cook their own dinner. There are buses outside my door and the train is close by.
