Description
We are an active retired couple located in Sooke, BC, on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. The ocean (Strait of Juan de Fuca) is a 3 minute walk from our property. Sooke is known for the the nature that surrounds us. It's motto is "Where the Rainforest Meets the Sea". From our place you will regularly see bald eagles overhead and deer wandering along the edge of the property. At the end of the road is Whiffin Spit Park which juts out into the water allowing for beautiful walks along the shoreline and encounters with seals and otters. Occasionally orcas will visit to thrill strollers. Whale watching tours and salmon fishing charters are readily available.

Sooke is a suburb of Victoria which is readily accessible via public bus transit. The bus stops across the street from our property. Locally there are many festivals held throughout the summer, but the main attraction is the surrounding nature, whether it's hiking the trails in the numerous parks, or beach combing along the many public beaches.
I am a retired landscaper, so I'm more than happy to pass on any skills that I have. If you don't already have a love of gardening and seeing things grow under your care, you'll find your passion here. Depending on what time of year that you visit, there are art and music festivals in town as well as weekly markets. Sooke is a small, but very outgoing town. As summer tourism is big here, the locals are very open to meeting people from all over the world.
Linda and I have travelled extensively and are always interested in meeting people and learning about where they are from.

Help
We built our home in 2021 and we are in the process of finishing the landscaping and are looking for someone to assist us with the tasks. Your duties will primarily consist of digging garden beds, screening and amending soil and planting shrubs. All necessary tools and instructions will be provided.
Although there is a short term rental on the property, none of your duties will be involved with the operation of that.

Accommodation
We have a separate short stay rental on the property. If it is not booked during your stay you are welcome to stay there. It has a separate bedroom, living room and bathroom, as well as a full kitchen. If you are staying in the suite we will provide you with all necessary groceries and you will be able to cook for yourself.
If you stay in the main home, you will have a separate bedroom with a full ensuite bathroom, and meals will be provided.

We have a small dog that loves to meet people. We are looking for non-smokers and no drugs.
