Please read all information here before writing us, to make sure this will be the right place for you :) We get quite a lot of inquirys, and since we have small children we don't use much time on the computer. We always answer every request we get, even though if we can't accept, but it might take some days before we are able to answer you :) Because of this we prefere to give as much information as possible in our profile instead of spending time answering the same questions over again :) Hopefully everything you need to know should be listed here in our profile :)
Please make sure that you're able to do the trip and that you've checked the prices for the journey before writeing us.
Our farm is beautifully located close to the sea on the coast of Helgeland. This is in Nordland, in the middle of Norway.
We have a small farm where we have some animals. We have 3 horses, a heard of 32 sheeps, 6 siberian huskeys, 5 cats and around 30 henses. Our animals are mainly a hobby, and to keep this place as a farm, we do not earn any money from the animals.
In summertime we also run a campsite where we have cabins and boats for rent, and also spaces for caravans.
We will not ask for help with handeling the tourists. We also have children and youths visiting the farm in weekends and holidays all year round. We will not ask you to take care of the kids comeing to visit our farm, but you'll probably share time and do activities with them when you're togheter with us.
We who live here are Anette (1979), André (1980) and our two sons (2013 and 2018). We will not ask you to take care of our children by yourself, but they will appriciate it a lot if you'd speak with them and play with them once in a while :) If you don't like beeing around children, our place is not the right place for you. If you speak well english we might be interested in "english-lessons" for our oldest son as one of your worktasks while you're here.
HOW TO GET HERE;
You can get here for excample from Oslo, Bodø or Trondheim by train to Mosjøen. This is the cheapest option, if you order early you can get at ticket for as cheep as 269 nok from Oslo to Mosjøen. Traintickets are available 3 months ahead of your journey, so you shold buy it good time in advance to get it as cheep as possible :)
Website; Search for nsb.no
You can also take Hurtigruta to Sandnessjøen from many places along the coast in Norway. This is a beautiful, but slow journey. It's more expensive than the train, but might be cheeper than airplane.
Website; Search for hurtigruten.no
It's also possible to take the "speedboat" from Bodø to Sandnessjøen.
Website; Search for 177nordland.no
You can take airplane from for excample Oslo, Trondheim or Bodø to Sandnessjøen or Mosjøen. We do not reccomend this since the planetickets within Norway often are quite expensive.
From Mosjøen trainstation you can take the bus to Leirfjord, it takes about 37 minutes. The busline has the number 23-705. The bus goes from the trainstation, and there is normally a bus waiting when the train arrives. When you are buying the trainticket you can ask us for help to check if there's a bus if you can't find the correct bustable. Normally there's a bus leaving 10 minutes after the train arrives.
Website; Search for 177nordland.no
We'll pick you up at the closest busstation in Leirfjord. The stop closest to us is called Tovveien kryss, witch is in the middle of nowhere - so it's important that when you enter the bus you tell the driver to stop there. The stop is in a cross shortly after a long tunnell (Toventunnellen).
Please make sure that you don't arrive (or leave, after you've been here) there between 24.00 - 08.00 as we are sleeping and unable to pick you up :D We've done it sometimes, but it happened quite some times now that the people got of at the wrong busstation, and we can't drive around searching for people in the middle of the night :D

Our farm is located at the beautiful coast of Helgeland (Helgelandsskysten). From here you can visit close-by islands, you can go hiking at a lot of beautiful mountains nearby, such as the Seven sisters (40 minutes driving to get there), you can learn norwegian, get to know locals, ride and train our horses, fishing, kayaking (we can't let you go alone with the kayak unless you have a lot of experience), learn dog-mushing, a lot of animal-contact, beeing togheter with locals, learn about how it's like to live on a farm and so on :)
What you'll benefit also will depend on what yourself will make of the stay :) We want the workawayers that stay with us to go home with a lot of nice memories - but this will also depend a lot on your own engagement as we unfortunally don't have time to entertain you. You should be independent and able to do things in your sparetime by yourself. If you want to do things with us in the weekends, please let us know, if we have time we'd like to include you - and as well we'll try to give you ideas of what to do by your self in the evenings and the weekends if you ask us :)
Remember that we have small children and they are our priority, so what we can do for you depends on our childrens scedule. Evenings are difficult for us due to the childrens bedtime. Because of this we can't help you with things after 19.00 o'clock. Summertime is a busy time for us, wintertime we have more time to socialise with the voulenteers :)
We are looking for all kinds of help at our family farm and around the house.
Since we had children it's been busy for us to take care of everything by our self. This is the reason why we need extra help - and we think it's nice to meet people from other countrys and cultures, so the workaway-consept fits us very well. At the moment we homeschool our 6-year old, and our 2-year old is an active kid, so they keeps us busy enough :) Also we have other kids comeing to the farm in weekends and lso on weekdays, so it's great to get help with all the things we don't have the time to do ourselfs.
We need active volunteers that are physical and mentally strong, and who doesn't mind getting dirty.
We always have different projects going on, and there's always something to do around here. We bought this farm autumn 2016, before that we lived on a smaller farm on an island 1 hour from our new home. Now we have a lot of renovating to do at this farm, we hope to start renovating the stable / barn spring 2020.
All year round we need help with animal care, keeping the farm tidy and clean, and as well some help to clean our house and other buildings at our farm. We work quite a lot with making wood, mainly in wintertime, but also sometimes in spring / autumn.
We plan to build a dogtrailer and a greenhouse during 2019 / 2020, and maybe also a small cabin in the forrest just for fun :)
We would also love to have someone helping us to make a homepage, and it would be really nice to have some help translateing some of our signs at the campsite into your language :) If you have drawing / writeing skills that would be great, and art-projects might also be interesting :) We also sometimes need help moving stones and other heavy things, so you should be at good health. If you have some health-issues that might prevent you from certain tasks, you should let us know when you send us a request.
Sometimes we need to leave the farm, and then we need help to take care of the place and animals while we're gone.
In wintertime we especially need help for painting indoors, different building projects - for excample to build new houses for the dogs, animal care, work with wood or some fixing up in our house or in one of the cabins.
In springtime we especially need help with makeing the vegetable garden, help with the sheeps when the lambs are beeing born, we need help with the spring-cleaning of our cabins, prepareing the boats for the season...
In springtime and during summer we especially need help with mowing the lawn, cleaning cabins, painting outdoors, putting up fences, makeing our own hay for the horses, some animal care...
In autumn we especially need help with cleaning the cabins, prepare the boats to be put away for the winter, put away all loose things around the farm before winter arrives, animal care...
We ask for help 5 hours per day, five days a week. Normally the workhours are from 09.00 - 14.00, but sometimes it will be needed some help in the evenings as well, so that in that case you`ll work for excample 4 hours in the morning and 1 hour in the evening. As, well - if you'd like - it's possible to start earlyer so that you'll get more out of the rest of the day. We are flexible, so if you'd like to change your days off because of the weather or other reasons, thats normally no problem. We ask the woulenteers to be precise and work the time we have agreed on.
Friday evening, saturday and sunday you are normally off :) If we are leaving the farm for a weekend or there's something special happening we'll ask you to change you freedays to some weekdays instead. If we are hosting many voulenteers at the same time we'll ask for some to work on weekends and take their days off on weekdays. Voulenteers that come travelling here togheter will have their freedays togheter
If you have some special thaughts of what kind of work you'd like to do, you should ask us in advance. We need help for certain things depending on season and what we priority for the moment, and we might not be able to give you the work that you'd like to do.
You should be prepared that even though we might host several workawayers at the same time, you must be able to work individually. A lot of the worktasks we do around here only needs one person to do, so we normally work alone on different tasks. When we work with wood or building something we work together.
Important; June, july and august are the busyest months here with a lot to do. It's also a great time to be in the area we live in since we have daylight almost 24 hours, we might have really great weather and it's a nice time of the year to stay in the north of the country. Since it's a busy time, we need experienced voulenteers who can work hard and be a good help for us.
Norwegian, english, spanish
We have available a big house (the big white house in the pictures) with three bedrooms (10 beds in the house). As well we have available a cabin with one bedroom (space for 3 persons). We normally host no more than 3 persons at the same time, so that each person will have their own bedroom. Occationally we might host coupples that share one bedroom. Sometimes there might be more voulenteers for a coupple of days when some new voulenteers are arriveing before the other left.
We have the possibillity to host familys.
The voulenteers-house has a good kitchen with dishwasher and good space for preparing food. The kitchen has a great seaview! The house has a big bathroom with shower and washingmachine. Toilet in a separate room. The livingroom is quite big and has a woodstove for heating. There is no tv and limited internet-access. In wintertime you have to be prepared to use the woodstove to keep the house warm. It's important that you are positive to useing the woodstove because if you'll use only electricity to heat the house our electricitybill will be huge while you're here :D
We have just installed internet in the house for voulenteers. We don't like the radiation from wifi, and since the wifi from the voulenteers house reaches our house as well, we ask you to respect this and turn off wifi when you don't use it and when you go to sleep :)
In summertime the voulenteers-house is normally rented by our guests (may - september) and then we have smaller cabins available, a caravan or a room in our house. This will depend on what's available. In summer you'll probably live in one of our caravans.
Like in every house hold, helpers are expected to contribute in cooking and cleaning up after themselves. Even if your work tasks are up till 5 hours per day, be prepared that the rest of the ordinary survival comes in addition. This means that you have to help out with makeing the shared dinner and help to put in / empty dishwasher plus clean up after dinner, bake breads for your house, organice the other meals yourself, wash your own house once a week, keep your house warm and so on.
Even though you might not live in our house with us, you are welcome to come and spend time with us in the evenings.
We share dinner in our house every day, this meal we prepare together or each our time. In summertime we often have late dinner around 18.00, and in wintertime we try to have earlyer dinner, around 14.00 / 15.00. Dinnertime depends on what else is happening, så we don't have a fixed time.
Some voulenteers prefere not to make dinner, and that's okey, but then we expect that you'll do the cleaning up after dinner :) We don't want to spend 1 - 2 hours makeing dinner, and then after also clean up after everybody. It is important for us that you are prepared to do your part of this.
We'd like the time we spend toghether to be social, so we'll appreciate it if you'll respect that and put your mobilephone away while your spending time with us in our house :) It's very important for us since we are hosting workawayers almost all year round witch makes it a big part of our life - and we want that our children will experience that the grown ups are beeing present, instead of beeing occupied with the mobilephone :) If you think this will be difficult for you, you should consider if our farm is the right place for you to come.
The other meals you prepare for yourself in your house.
The voulenteers who come here lives here for free, in a house in wintertime, summertime in a caravan / cabin. We provide for duvet, pillow, sheets, towels, washingpowder, handsoap, electricity and wood for your woodstove. As well we provide for shared dinner in our house and some food for the other meals, but read carefully what we listed under this text.
In your house we will provide for flour and yeast to make your own bread and some toppings (like jam, cheese, peanutbutter, nutella and some others), oatmeal, milk, juice, tea and coffee.
Mark that if you want other things you need to provide for it yourself.
We can't provide for dinner-ingredients in your house as we share dinner in our house. We only have one warm meal per day (dinner). If you want warm meals for lunsh you need to provide for it yourself.
If you'd like to have food like vegetables, eggs, flour, rice, a good selection of fruits, candy etcetera etcetera in your house, you need to provide for it yourself. Let us know if you want us to help you get to the store if you need to buy something.
If you go away for the weekends for trips and excursions we can't provide for your food while you're not at the farm.
All voulenteers have to wash the house / cabin / caravan they've been living in when they leave, it should look nice, clean and tidy - just as when you arrived :) This is very important, as the house must be ready for new voulenteers to come.
If you like the city-life, note that this is unfortunally not the place for you. We live in a silente remote place with very few neighbours. The closest food-store is 20 minutes driving from here. Closest shopping-possibilities is around 45 minutes driving from here (Sandnessjøen). There are buses passing a coupple of times per day, but they pass 2 kilometers from our house. We will help you get to the bus when needed. In weekends there's less buses than in weekdays. We can´t lend you our car because of insuranse-rules, but when we have the possibillity we`ll be helpful when you need to go somewhere. As it`s a long way to drive back and forth we prefere makeing plans for excample for going to Sandnessjøen, and then you might join if you`d like.
If you like animals, quiet and nature, this is a great place to be. If you like beeing outdoors, you will hopefully have a nice stay here. It´s not so much to do inside in your freetime, and you might be bored. If you travel alone you should think about if this will be okey for you or if you'll be bored.
Even though we live remotely in the countryside, it might still be noisy around here. If you're searching complete peace, our place might not be for you. We have 2 children, and more children visiting on weekends and holiday - so our house can be quite noisy. We also might have other voulenteers, so it's quite normal that we're at least 10 people for dinner. There will also be a lot of people at the campsite in summertime.
In your time off, you can go horsebackrideing, do dog-mushing, go hikeing, visit near-by citys, kayaking (we have 1 kayak we can lend away), fishing, boat-trips, enjoy the silence and so on.. :) If you want to join us for sled-trips with the dogs, you should think about bringing your own skiis and ski-boots as you normally must be able to handle a dog with skiis before we let you handle the sled by yourself. We have some skiis and boots to lend the voulenteers, but we might not have your size.
Remember that the dogs can't be trained when it's more than 12 degrees. As well, for the moment we only have one horse that can be ridden, and she has a baby foal just now.
Our life is quite busy with raising 2 children and takeing care of a business, so you must be prepared to entertain yourself in your own house or with outdoor activities in the evenings. We put our children to bed around 19.00 - 20.00, and after that we're normally occupied with paperwork or other things. Occationally we'll organice a movienight in wintertime if you'd like. If we have different social plans we'll invite you when it's possible. Normally you'll meet our friends and family while staying here.
We'd like you to think about what you would like to experience in your sparetime while you`re here. If you have concrete wishes and make good plans some time ahead, it will be easyer for us to help you succed with your plans for excample by giving you information and drive you if we have the time.
If you speak spanish, Anette would really like to practise the language while you're here :)
You must be prepared that in wintertime we have very little daylight, maybe just 4 hours in the darkest period. The lack of daylight might be a problem for some people, so you should think about if you will cope with it. It might also be very cold, from -10 till -20 sometimes. As well we might have a lot of wind, witch makes it even colder. Bring warm clothes, good boots and a headlamp in the period november - march.
In summer we have daylight all day round! It might be rainy though, so bring proper clothes :)
It's very important that you bring gloves and good boots for working around the farm, especially in wintertime.
If you want to go on trips in the afternoon and in weekends, you need to bring the equipment needed, such as sleepingbag, tent and whatever kind of other equipment you'll need. Unfortunally we can't lend out equipment for these kind of excursiones. We have bikes and helmets that you can lend.
We don't have any tv in any of the houses at the farm, we don't accept smokeing inside any buildings and we can't accept partys.
Remember that you need to make sure that you have insuranse that will be valid in Norway, and that it counts for whatever you'll do while your here, such as for excample horsebackrideing, hikeing, kayaking or training the dogs. We'll teach / bring you on this kind of activities when we have time while your here if you'd like, but you have to be aware that it's on your own risk. We don't have any insuranse that counts for the workawayers unfortunally.
Our diet is mainly plant-based, but we eat eggs and occationally fish. André eats meat sometimes. You can have any diet you want, and food-allergies is no problem as long as we are informed in advance. A complete vegan or glutenfree diet will be difficult here because it's not so easy to get good alternatives and it's very expensive. If you're vegan / glutenfree we'll adjust the dinners so that you can eat it, but we can't provide for vegan / glutenfree alternatives in your house for the other meals.
What workawayers staying here can expect from us:

*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ We will treat you with the same respect that we expect from you.
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ We will pick you up at the busstation and drive you there when you leave.
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ We will not ask you to work more than 25 hours per week.
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ Friday evening, saturday and sunday you are normally off unless we need to ask you to change days. You will still have 2 1/2 days off :)
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ We will try to help you to have fun in your sparetime if you take initiative and we have the time for it.
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ We can teach you what we know about dogsledding and horsebackrideing in your sparetime if you take initiative and if we have the time for it. Summertime is very busy for us, and we might not have spare time.
What we expect from workawayer's staying with us:
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ We would like the workawayer's to be helpful, respectful and trustworthy.
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ We would like the workawayer's to read our profile-information carefully to make sure you understand and agree to our conditions.
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ We would like the workawayer's to be precise and do the work we agreed on.
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ We would like the workawayer's to put their phone away while they spend time with us in our house :) It's also important that you help out around dinnertime as it's a lot of work makeing dinner and cleaning up after many people.
Please let us understand you have read all our profile when sending us inquiry. Why would you like to come to our farm? What do you think about the working tasks mentioned in our profile? It is very important for us to come well along with the voulenteers and to be together as a team. Please tell us about how you are used to participate in daily family life.
