Our school is a government school, located in the village of Jagat, Lamjung district, at the beginning of Annapurna circuit. It was founded in 1970. At this time, there was only primary level and in 2013, we started lower secondary level (up to grade 8). Around 86 students learn in 8 classes. 9 teachers, including 4 from the government, 1 from GMR project and 4 private teachers, work in the school. For the private teachers, we have to collect money from local people, including other villages and donations from tourists as well.
The village has around 200 people, Tamang and Gurung. They have different cultures and religions. There are many small villages around from where some children of the school come.

Help with Eco Projects
Help around the house
Help with Computers/ Internet
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
We ask to volunteers to help mainly in teaching English. If you have some computer knowledges, you can share it with us as well. You are, of course, expected to like children from 4 to 15 years old. It is important to understand that working with Nepali kids from villages can be difficult sometimes because of the language and the culture. So, you have to be open minded and patient with this. Some kids need a special attention and need private extra classes. You can as well play with kids, showing them new games, dances, song, etc...
A minimum of 2 weeks is necessary to know the children, the school, etc... If you have any ideas to improve the school and the village like introducing art class, or helping the villagers (language practice, cooking, eco project, helping in hotels, etc...) you are more than welcome.
We provide food and accommodation in one of our teacher's house with separate room. Please, be aware that we charge 5$ a day per person that includes room with bed, breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinking water (not mineral water), wifi, tea and coffee, because it is a remote place. You will have a single bed and hot showers as needed. The food is basically Daal Bhaat or Dhindo with nettle soup or whatever the family have in their daily routine.
During your free time, you can enjoy natural hot springs, hike, visit surrounding villages, enjoy waterfalls and scenery, watch bee hives, etc...
To come in the village, you can trek the Annapurna circuit from Beshisahar which can take 2 or 3 days walking. Or you can take a jeep from Beshisahar for Rs. 1000 (10$) which takes 3 hours.

In developing countries (Where most hosts are involved in charity work or community development) some of our hosts may ask for a small donation to help the host family or charity (often less then 5 dollars per day) Workaway will allow this listing when the donation goes directly to the family or charity and is just to cover the cost of the volunteer‘s stay. (This will be clearly marked on the host listing).
We will strictly not allow listings posted by agents, “middle men” or projects who we feel are looking to profit from a volunteers stay.
