Description
Welcome to our little jungle paradise in Costa Rica! 🌴☀️🌊
We’re an honest and ethical husband-and-wife team with two awesome kids (ages 8 and 5), living the pura vida dream here in Playa Samara. After 20 years in Austin, Texas, a vacation in 2021 changed everything for us—and we knew this was where we were meant to be.
We now live on a truly special 2.2-acre property in the jungle with incredible ocean views overlooking Chora Island. The land has a private trail to a magical river and waterfall—one of those rare places that feels sacred the moment you arrive. Every day we’re surrounded by howler monkeys, colorful birds, and the rhythms of nature.
We currently run part of our home as an bnb and are working on converting the upstairs into a second rental unit. We’re looking for Workawayers who are happy to lend a hand and want to be part of something special. If you have skills (or are willing to learn) in:
- Painting
- Grouting
- Light fixture replacement
- Building an outdoor kitchen
- Gardening & planting trees
…you’ll be a perfect fit!
You’ll have time to explore this amazing area—surf, boogie board, hike, or relax in nature. Samara has a laid-back, progressive community full of creative, health-conscious people. We spend our days barefoot on the beach, playing futbol, doing yoga, and enjoying this jungle-meets-ocean lifestyle. 🧘♂️🌊⚽
We also have two sweet cats, and love connecting with people who enjoy being around animals, kids, and a bit of adventure.
If you're up for meaningful work in a beautiful and soulful setting, we’d love to hear from you.

At our place, cultural exchange is a two-way street—rooted in connection, creativity, and conscious living.
You’ll get a front-row seat to daily life in the Costa Rican jungle, where we blend Pura Vida values with a modern, wellness-focused lifestyle. We're originally from Austin, Texas, and happy to share insights into American culture, entrepreneurship, digital work, and raising a young family abroad.
In return, we’re excited to learn about your background, skills, and perspectives. Whether it's sharing meals, stories, music, language, or hands-on projects, we love the natural exchange that happens when people live and work together with intention.
You'll also experience:
Immersion in the local community of Playa Samara, a melting pot of Costa Rican locals and international expats with a laid-back, inclusive vibe.
Opportunities to improve your Spanish (we’re learning too!) and interact with neighbors, vendors, and local artisans.
The rhythm of tropical life, with sunrise ocean views, jungle hikes, waterfall swims, beach bonfires, and maybe a little fútbol or surf thrown in.
We're passionate about personal growth and conscious living—yoga, meditation, breathwork, and sustainability—and love sharing ideas, resources, and meaningful conversations with open-minded travelers.
Whether you're looking to unplug, reconnect, or gain hands-on experience with an evolving property project, you’ll leave with more than just memories—you’ll leave with a sense of purpose and a few lifelong friendships.Help

In the master bedroom with King bed with double glass doors and windows overlooking the jungle and ocean, with outdoor patio and rooftop patio. Doesn't get much better than this setup! Bathroom with bathtub, washer and dryer. We'll provide breakfast, lunch and dinner. We source the majority of our food from the farmers market every Saturday morning. Breakfasts consist of oatmeal, eggs, variety of fresh fruits - mangos, watermelon, bananas, avocados, etc. Lunch varies from our homemade version of the local favorite dish casado including rice, beans, plantains, salad, and if desired a protein, sandwiches, etc. Dinner we like to cook curries with lentils or fresh vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes in organic coconut milk, burgers, we can source fresh tuna for cheap for a poke bowl or tuna steak. We are flexible and like all kinds of foods and have a fully stocked kitchen for cooking and open to meats, vegetarian or vegan, we've done them all.

In your time off can go to the beach and chill, surf, play volleyball, futbol, snorkel, yoga, coffee shops and restaurants. We have a car and can give some rides and other times will need to take a taxi to get up our hill.
