I found this beautiful 100+ year old building 5 years back , and decided to convert it into a backpackers hostel for everyone to enjoy. Now, this place is vibrating with inspiring art, daily yoga classes and visitors from all over the world.
I took on this project because I am passionate about preserving historical architecture, integrating natural elements back into our living spaces and creating open-hearted communities. That is why I am constantly in the process of improving this property by means like permaculture and sustainable earth decor. Do you have positive energy and a certain set of skills or original ideas? Please come join us!
Volunteers staying here are assigned a special task to work with, but after that I give you free hands to implement your personal ideas. In return for your contribution you get free accommodation, breakfast & dinner and access to all the amenities available in the hostel. I really appreciate people who are self-going, but I also spend a lot of time at the property myself and there is always staff around to ask for help. Here we are all family!

They are endless! The best thing about living in a backpackers hostel is the people - everyone is a treasure of knowledge and stories. Join us for sunsets at a reservoir, for music jams and adventures in and around the city.
Mysore is perhaps best known in the international community for its yoga culture. Many people come here and sign up for yoga courses, either as experienced practitioners or beginners. But really, only your imagination sets the limits of the memories you’ll make here. Want to host a workshop? Go for it! Want to take dancing classes? There are many! Want to go on a safari? Mysore is surrounded by wildlife and jungle! Want to learn traditional Indian cooking? South India is the birth place of Ayurveda! This place is sooo rich in culture, activities and colours, and yet it is one of the most tranquil cities in India with beautiful nature spots accessible by bike.
We offer yoga classes at our rooftop terrace. We do morning and evening classes. We need a volunteer who is a certified YT, and we also need help purchasing better yoga equipment and organising the yoga space.
The outdoor area is a beautiful, wild growing garden with a multitude of different fruit trees, vegetables, herbs, plants. We are in constant need of someone nurturing the plants, but we also want to improve on what is already there and do it in a sustainable, organic matter. Hence would welcome a volunteer that knows about permaculture.
Are you a photographer? Do you enjoy writing? Do you know videography? Are you good with social media? Great! We need someone to take photos of the property, of our guests and of Mysore and to update our social media, such as Instagram, Facebook and our website blog. We want our channels to be updated regularly, and you can get as creative as you want with it! You can take photos with a phone, but if you byo equipment than that is even better.
If you have experience with building furniture and/ or art pieces with natural materials we would love to host you. As of now we mostly need help with developing our garden café - building tables, chairs and really anything you think could add to the ambience of the place. We are super passionate about reducing waste and refusing plastic, so ideas around using leftover materials and such are especially welcome.
Art & general maintenance -
The walls are covered in art that elevate the atmosphere. If you want to do a wall painting or something of the sort, send us some pictures of what you’ve done before and we can host you. The hostel is obviously always in need of housekeeping, which we have staff for, but if you’d like to work with general maintenance (maybe you know how to substitute conventional cleaning articles with homemade, organic stuff?) that could also be helpful.
In conclusion, shoot us a message if you are interested in staying as a volunteer and we’ll have a chat :) We expect 5 hours of work 5 days a week and a minimum stay of two weeks.
