Description
UPDATE . we are done for the season :) - no hosting anymore in 2023.
AUGUST TO MID SEPTEMBER 2024 WILL BE THE KEY PERIOD FOR VOLUNTEERING WITH US. DURING THIS TIME (AND ONLY DURING THIS TIME) RAPHAEL IS HOME AND WILL BE HAPPY TO DO SOME PROJECTS. BY THE WAY, BESIDES TREES AND GARDENS HE IS ALSO BUSY WITH THE MISTLETOE FLOWER ESSENCES - BOTH PRACTICALLY AND WITH DESIGN WORK. SO IF YOU ARE FAMILIAR (AND HAPPY) WITH DESIGN, WEBDESIGN AND / OR TRANSLATION WORK AS A COMPLEMENT TO THE NATURE EXPERIENCE, YOU ARE PARTICULARLY WELCOME DURING THAT TIME.
Yoooo. This is a co-creation project with my neighbors. As for myself, I'm a 24 year old Danish guy, partly living in a cabin close to Ås, Norway. I studied Environment and Development at the Norwegian University of Lifesciences, ecology and agriculture NMBU, but I'm tired of all the talking and lack of actions. Therefore I want to build a self-sufficient community. The idea is to have a food-forest, permacultural garden, biogas generator and water cleaning system. Also I want to build more cabins or Tipis or Yurts in the area. The place is located 5 km from Ås and our University where there is sauna and a vibrant student life. If you want to live a simple, sustainable and loving life then come by and share whatever skill you have to share.
-----
Friends of mine (we have been working together since I moved here, indeed it is through them that I was able to move here) in my immediate neighborhood (100 m) have another place, where you can work and eat and live: It is a non-profit initiative for spiritual sustainability and healing, they also offer hospitality in exchange for work - during winter especially graphic design and webdesign. They run a clinic for environmental medicine and spiritual healing, an alternative webshop and a spiritual-ecological adult education center and event organizer....and are passionate about the fusion of biodynamics and permaculture.
During the summer months it is a very lively place, almost like a workcamp festival. The rest of the year a calm place in the woods, perfect for nature lovers and digital nomads.
In their “forest garden” (its really more a spot in the woods), all is small scale but with a big open heart and an enthusiasm for beauty and new solutions. And since we are expanding , we have a lot of building going on. During the last four years we have built a pond and a straw-bale cabin plus raised beds and chicken stable, wooden structures, experimental beehives and an amazing panoramic lakeview outdoor toilet - all with many helping hands from international volunteers. A geodome greenhouse is their next dream. You can learn from our special expertise with spiritual bee-keeping , detox and natural health research on light , building biology , spiritual matters and meditation, ecological-political activism ( - plus international projects within ecological farming).
In a way, they would love to only work with bees and trees, compost and veggies – but in fact it is the office and the shop which generates the income to make the garden possible, and thus they also need urgent help with graphic design, development and maintenance of websites and webshop, promotion of events, finding pictures for the newsletter etc. regarding international course work about spiritual ecology, biographical healing and environmental medicine. For language learners, even reception and customer care can be an option (Norwegians tend to speak English well and mix it into their mothertongue; also, many of our clients speak German).
Of course, you are welcome to participate in their courses in case they coincide with your stay: a.o. on tree care, biodynamics , spiritual ecology and natural beekeeping. -
- WHAT IS NEEDED
>> At any time:
- Design work, Webdesign, Computer support, marketing through the web and social media, help with finding pictures and design elements for websites, facebook etc – a good playground for creative minds!
- building, maintenance, repair
- Skilled carpenters always welcome.
General
--- Working in small group of max 3,
--- Housing in individual cabins
> We need to count on your engagement and flexibility - due to work peaks, timelines and weather conditions – while you can count on us when it comes to learning resources and inspiring new concepts.
! Be aware that this is not a real farm. No big scale farmland with grains and the like. In a way we are all training for bigger projects to come (ecovillage spiritual farming community) - and in the meantime we are working as intensely as possible with the little exquisite gem of a garden-forest-lake-landscape.

specifically:
• Graphic design and product development: Flower Essences.
• Help with running Website development, wepshop and marketing for our courses etc.

Believe it or not: here in the woods, we have HIGH SPEED INTERNET THROUGH FIBEROPTICS
Cabins in the garden, 5 to 40 meters away from the main house: Two log cabins, one strawbale cabin.
The kitchen and the bathroom is shared for us all in the main house, besides there is an outdoor compost "panorama toilet" with scenic view of the lake ;)
How will travellers benefit from a cultural exchange and what could they learn?
You will see how it is possible to create the reality you wish to see and still be an integrated part of society. The university is filled with people from all over the world and so you have the opportunity to meet a wide diversity of life perspectives. you will certainly meet many new ideas and many languages...
The cabin is 30 minutes busride resp. 1 hour hitchhike from Oslo. There is a big Jam session on a nearby farm once a month and always funny things happening at the university.
Other things to do with your time off:
swimming in the lake just beside our garden; canoeing, hiking, mountain biking, Nordic ski ....helping with beekeeping and participating in the courses and events of our friends in the neighborhood (only during certain times).Types of help and learning opportunities
