  • Description

    Description

We are Jane, Denis and our 9-year-old son, a family living off-grid on a finca in Quebrada Amarilla, in the hills near Jacó on Costa Rica’s central Pacific coast.

Our house runs on its own electricity system and water from our community well, and we grow a permaculture garden around it. We built here in 2022 and the land is still a work in progress, which is where you come in.

Evgeniia leads family constellations groups, writes and sings her own songs and books of poetry, hosts kirtan and meditation. Denis has worked in the payments industry for nearly 30 years, is co-founding an AI startup, and has written a book, “Journey to the Pure State”. Our son writes adventure stories, loves martial arts and is currently learning Morse code, and he will happily recruit you for either.

We speak Russian and English, a little less Spanish and Italian. Basic French. Life here is quiet and simple: early mornings, garden work before the heat, air condition time of the sun and computer work, shared meals, and music in the evenings.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

You can learn how an off-grid home works day to day, from power and water to growing food in the tropics. You are welcome to join Janes kirtan and meditation evenings, and we enjoy conversations about anything from permaculture to technology. Beach, surf and Jacó are 7-15 minutes away by uber/our car/motocycle.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

A concrete dome house (or a hobbit house) with a loft style of a layout (a sofa on the ground floor and a mattress on the upper level - both beds are of a queen size) and a little, but full kitchen, a shower and a toilet. Shared cooking of meals.

I expect helping cooking as a part of the workaway program. But I'm providing grocery. NOTE: vegetarians only.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There is a space for 2 wokawayers at once - as a couple or friends. Renting a car would be helpful to travel on your own schedule, but we will be happy to give rides whenever it coincides with our schedule. Pets are welcome, smoking is not. Dietary notes: we are vegetarians, and helping us with healthy balanced diet could be one very valuable input into our lives. If you eat meat, we would prefer it not to be cooked on the kitchen (because of the smell), but rather used canned or precooked options, or eat it outside. There is plenty of yoga, pilates, padel ball and other activities available in Jaco. Its a drive, but we normally go that direction every second day or so, so whenever we can, happy to give rides.
