Description
Hello! We are an international couple who met in Australia, where we lived for 5 wonderful years.
Giacomo is from Italy and An is from Japan. Recently, we moved into Giacomo’s grandparents’ house in the mountains above Verona, in Valdiporro — a tiny, peaceful village, especially quiet in winter. The house had been abandoned for a long time, so we now have lots of projects to work on (it’s quite big and old, but full of charm!).
We both love volunteering and have experience as Workaway hosts and travelers. Giacomo traveled across South America in 2016 for a year, taking part in 15 Workaway projects in different countries. He also volunteered in South Korea, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Last year, we explored Thailand and Vietnam, and every experience was amazing.
Now that we had a baby (Sante born on 6 July 25) , we feel it’s the perfect time to give back a little of the warmth and good vibes we’ve received from our past Workaway adventures. We can’t wait to meet new people, share stories, and create a welcoming space together

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
You will have the chance to explore Lessinia and the area around Verona, and of course try the local food — we both love to cook and eat! There is a lovely local community here, very friendly with foreigners, and in summer the area welcomes many tourists.
You will get in touch with the local culture and the traditions of these mountains. We love having deep conversations around the fire, drinking good wine or hot tea, playing some music, and trying your food too. We both speak good English and are happy to show you around during your free time.
We can share our stories, our projects, and our passions — and hopefully, we can all leave each other with something new in our backpacks. 😁🫶🏻
Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.

Help
We would love someone to help us with the basic tasks that we normally enjoy doing in our free time. This can include gardening, cleaning, cutting the grass, pruning trees, picking fruits and vegetables, or moving firewood. Any skills are welcome, but no professional experience required.
We are also planning to create a space for chickens, a permaculture garden, and a small fruit forest. We have a lot of old wood, so we enjoy making creative furniture or decorations for the house. Other activities include preparing jam and pizza, and simply having some company, since there aren’t many people around here.
There’s plenty to do, so we can find together what you enjoy most — nothing complicated! We also have a small baby, so it would be great to have some breaks from time to time

Accommodation
Inside the house, there is a private bedroom with a single bed, a private toilet with a cold shower, or access to a shared toilet with hot water. We can offer all the food you need — Japanese and Italian dishes. Contributions are very appreciated but not necessary, especially if you are a hard worker!
You will share the kitchen with us, but you will have your own bedroom with all the privacy you need. The bedroom is on the second floor, with a private balcony where you can relax. The area is very quiet, with almost no noise — perfect for enjoying some peace and calm
What else ...
In the free time you have a lot of options, the nature here is amazing and you can enjoy a lot of beautiful hiking, or visit Verona and the Garda lake. There is a public bus coming and go from the village, but you can use one of our bike or we are happy to give you a ride, or come with you if you don't mind to spend time together.
