I have owned the lodge for 15 years, I am 36 from the UK and have a 5 year old daughter. We both live at the hotel and we have around 10 staff onsite as well. It is a small family run hotel and would be great to have some extra hands.

A great opportunity to work with local staff and learn about the Swahili culture while helping to run an ecolodge.
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help with eco projects in the hotel to help reduce water usage, helping with menus and ideas for the restaurant and cocktails, promoting on social media, accounts and office work, helping checking rooms, meeting and greeting tourists, helping with the small shop with local products. My daughter is nearly 5 and if you have any skills with kids then reading and writing with her would also be great.

Accommodation is in a hotel which is on the beach front of the island. Breakfast, lunch and dinner would be provided by the hotel. The accommodation is a traditional hut with bathroom, bed, front porch. All food and drinks are taken in the restaurant and alcohol would have to be paid for.
Lamu town is near by and Shela village. This is quite a remote island and the volunteer would be expected to immerse themselves into the island life style for at least 1 month. It is fun to hang out in the hotel and you can also go over to Shela and Lamu town. It is quite a quiet place and not for someone looking to party all the time. I would expect 5 hours work a day and 2 days off per week.
