Our animal trust was founded in 2007 by animal lovers Penny and her late husband Brian, in Fort Cochin (Kochi), India. The trust is run by a handful of loyal regular staff members and the help of volunteers.
We are always looking for people with a genuine love for animals who would like to make a difference. If you have a desire to work hard and face a challenge we can put your skills to good use.
Our volunteer program is totally free, that's right we do not charge you to volunteer your skills but you need to arrange your transportation to and from India. There is accommodation available at the trust while space lasts as well as breakfast and dinner provided. Many people come to India, and seeing the plight of the street animals, would like to make a difference.
We don't just need vets and veterinary nurses. Our free volunteer program allows you to make a an impact while also taking time to live in and learn about a new culture. Many of the people who help us are from the community and enjoy working with our volunteers who have come from overseas to learn about India - this kind of cultural exchange is another rewarding reason for volunteering abroad.
Animals need to be fed, given water, washed, cleaned up after and treated with respect as well as receive first class medical care (injections, sterilisation, etc) for injury and to support our ABC (animal birth control) program. Also, abandoned or orphaned puppies and kittens need round the clock bottle feeding and attention.
While around the town, our volunteers should help keep an eye out to monitor the health of the street animals, checking for fresh injuries or abuses. Taking time to visit local schools to speak with children about how to treat animals is another important part of volunteering with us and helping is build upon our community connections and educate people about our mission.
There are a number of positions that need to be filled by volunteers such as:
-vets, trainee vets, veterinary nurses and assistants
-housekeeper/maintenance
-project manager
-community liaison
*minimum 2 month commitment
