We are an Australian couple restoring a magnificent 18th century French château. Currently major works are being undertaken to restore the roof and facades of the château which is a listed historic monument and currently in peril. We are a not for profit and when volunteering with us you will be assisting us in the monumental task of restoring the château. You will not be part of any commercial activity and we have no paying guests. You will be part of our family and friends who are assisting in the restoration of the château.
Creating/ Cooking family meals
The château is a magnificent domain. You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself completely into château life with us. Located in Nouvelle- Aquitaine the château is surrounded by an enormous forest and nestled in the French countryside. We are surrounded by small villages that you can explore and are a 40 minute drive from the Loire Valley where you can visit one of France's most celebrated food and wine region plus some of the country's 's best known chateaux. The chateau is a focal point for life in the village and you will have the opportunity to join in village life and celebrations. You will also have the chance to interact with our artisans who are here daily working on the chateau restoration.
In order for us to be able to focus on the château DIY projects we have created an opportunity for a chef to look after our daily meals during a period when our family and friends come to volunteer from April on wards throughout the summer months. We are looking for a team player to become a member of our family and group of friends who volunteer their time and support to assist the restoration. You will not be cooking for paying guests (of which we have none) nor will you be cooking for any commercial activities.

The restoration of the inside of the château can not commence until our roof is secured so the inside is very tired. You will however have a comfortable private room on either the ground floor or first floor of the château. You will share bathroom and kitchen facilities with us and will be able to roam the estate freely. We have a 8 month puppy who will want to be your best friend! We will provide you with three meals a day for no cost. You will be welcome to dine with us as you please and will be a welcome member of our family.
The nearest train station is Poitiers which is about 1 1/2 hour train ride to Paris. The château is quite remote so if you are looking to explore the region you will need a car. We have bikes which you can use to explore the forest in front of the château and a swimming pool which you are welcome to use. We also have a grand piano if you enjoy playing the piano!

Our wifi is stable during the day however we sometimes find that it can slow down in the evenings or when uploading or downloading large files. There are limited areas within the château where 4g is available due to the thickness of the château walls.
We have a lot of space so if you are traveling with your own campervan we can accommodate this regardless of the size.
