Welcome to our equine charity on the beautiful tropical island of Gili Trawangan, Indonesia! The Gili Islands are a top travel destination in Southeast Asia, where motorized vehicles are not allowed. Instead, transportation here is powered by horses, bicycles, or simply walking.
Our charity is dedicated to supporting the working horses and ponies of Gili Trawangan. We provide education, veterinary care, equipment, supplies, and ongoing support for these amazing animals. We also run an active rescue and rehabilitation program, and offer free lessons to local children to help them learn how to care for horses.
As a 100% non-profit organization, we rely on the generosity of donations and the support of volunteers to continue our vital work.

Located in the heart of Indonesia, our unique setting on the Gili Islands, where motorized vehicles are not allowed, offers a rare opportunity to experience the rich cultural diversity of the region. You’ll have the chance to interact with people from Lombok and the Gili Islands, gaining insight into their distinct cultural, religious, and ethnic traditions.
We collaborate closely with the local government and engage daily with a variety of communities, providing a meaningful experience for volunteers. Additionally, we offer hands-on opportunities to work directly with local children, allowing you to make a positive impact in their lives while learning from the community.
This is an incredible chance to immerse yourself in a vibrant and diverse culture while contributing to a cause that truly matters.
Help
We would love to welcome volunteers to help with a variety of tasks, including grooming, bathing, exercising, fixing fences, picking up trash around the property, assisting with treatments and veterinary care, hoof care, training, and offering lessons.
At any given time, we care for between 25 and 30 horses and often support local clinics and projects to treat working horses and ponies in the community.
Our schedule is as follows:
Morning: We take the ponies to the beach for socializing from 7:30 am to 8:30 am.
Afternoon: The afternoon routine runs from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
We kindly ask all volunteers to respect the working hours and guidelines. If these aren’t followed, we may need to ask you to leave.

Accommodation
We offer free shared accommodation in a dormitory-style room that sleeps 6 people, complete with an en-suite bathroom and shower. Additional facilities, including AC and Wi-Fi, are also available. Breakfast is affordable, or you can choose to cook for yourself. The accommodation is located in a quiet and safe area, with many affordable meal options nearby.
Dorm Rules:
No parties: While Gili Trawangan is known for its nightlife, our property is a peaceful environment, and we do not permit parties.
No drugs
No hangovers: If you choose to drink, please do so responsibly.
Quiet time after 10 pm
If you are unable to respect these rules, this may not be the ideal Workaway placement for you.
What else ...
The Gili Islands, located between Lombok and Bali, are easily accessible by flying into either airport and taking a fast boat to the islands. Most visitors can obtain a 30-day visa on arrival for $35 USD, which can be extended for an additional 30 days. Other visa options are available for longer stays.
Gili Trawangan offers a variety of restaurants, an active nightlife, and is close to Bali and Lombok, making it a perfect base for exploring nearby attractions like temples, hiking trails, and world-class scuba diving and snorkeling spots.
Our accommodation is located on the northern side of the island, within a peaceful dive resort. We kindly ask volunteers to respect our quiet environment by refraining from loud parties or drugs. Drinking is allowed but should be done responsibly—drunkenness is not tolerated. Our area is safe, with minimal risk of theft or other issues.
Having lived here since 2014 and founded our charity in 2015, we’ve seen many past volunteers become lifelong friends. We’d love to welcome you into our community!
