Description
Hello, I'm Mari, and I have a little house in the mountains with a garden forest! And from there you can see the sea. Renovating this house is a lifetime project, and I want to do it little by little. It will take time. A little help from people who like a quiet life and nature would be great

I am originally from Peru and I am currently restructuring my house in Sicily, just outside Palermo. For me, this project is not only about building or renovating a house, but also about creating a space for cultural exchange.
Living here means being surrounded by mountains, with neighbors who all know each other and where community life is still very present. Sicily is full of traditions and the Sicilian language itself is different from Italian, which I am also learning little by little. I believe this process of learning and adapting is much more meaningful when shared with others.
What I can offer is an authentic exchange of cultures:
Languages: I can share Spanish as my mother tongue, German, what is my second language and I am also happy to practice Italian and Sicilian together with you.
Food: Coming from Peru, I love to cook and share recipes from my culture, and I am also eager to learn and exchange culinary traditions from Sicily and from your country.
Stories & daily life: In the free moments, I enjoy conversations about life experiences, traditions, and different ways of seeing the world. These small exchanges enrich everyday life.
The area itself also offers cultural activities depending on the season of the year, from local festivals to traditional events, and thanks to the proximity to Palermo, it is easy to enjoy the vibrant cultural life that a city has to offer—museums, concerts, markets, and much more.
I imagine this house as a meeting point where languages, food, and personal stories come together. In this way, every volunteer who comes here leaves a little part of their culture and takes a piece of Sicily (and Peru) with them.Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
The type of help I would need is diverse, from moving some furniture to painting some rooms; some gardening, like the small areas next to the house; repairing some fences and cracked cement steps; or woodwork projects, such as aligning doors and sanding or stripping old paint from doors and windows. Depending on the length of stay.

I can provide a room that has everything you need to be comfortable on the ground floor. The house has common areas such as an open kitchen, a living room, a working space, a long terrace, and parking space available.
What else ...
The house is located in the mountains 10 minutes from Palermo airport. The location is ideal since it is also 30 minutes from Palermo city, and a train stop is 7 minutes away. Both the way to the train station and to the nearest supermarket can, in theory, also be done on foot, but preferably it would be advisable to rent a car, since in general on the island you cannot get everywhere without a car. In any case, I am willing to take you to and pick you up from the train station during your stay.

Simon
Simon is an orange cat with all the typical characteristics of an orange cat! He is very loving but his hunting instinct is very strong and he enjoys spending a lot of time walking in the forest that surrounds the house. He was raised as an indoor cat but since we moved here he has become a 95% outdoor cat. He does not enter the house and also spends a lot of time on the terrace.
