    Description

Current project is building a tiny house (bunkie) in the back woods, mostly out of reclaimed materials (see pics). Seeking someone with building experience to assist in getting the roof on before winter! Also garden / farm work, and sharing family meals. Ideal for us would be beginning the 8th or 9th of October, with a week for sure, and see how it goes from there... Look forward to hearing from you!

Our small farm/peri-urban homestead is in Springville, Ontario, 45 minutes by bike from downtown Peterborough, and a 90 minute drive from Toronto.

Our family includes myself, my husband (born and raised in the area), my father (retired carpenter and lead farmer), two step children, 18 and 14, here on weekends, Mabel, our lively dog, a 4 year old lab mix, and Manfred, an orange cat.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are blessed with pretty amazing opportunities to be in nature, with 136 acres, including a small forest, wetlands, fields, trails, and a unique formation called vernal pools. There are lots of birds, animals and plants to get to know.

You can learn / hone your building skills, add a cool job to your resume, and also learn about organic food, animal husbandry, etc at our small scale family farm in Springville, Ontario.

Also, being just 45 minutes by bike from downtown Peterborough - a wonderful small city/big town that we think is awesome. There are lots of cafes, and amazing live music most nights. We're also just an hour and 20 minutes drive from Toronto, you'll have easy access to interesting urban opportunities, too!

We're looking for someone with building experience, who can work independently and be a quiet helper. (As above), Current chief project is building a tiny house (bunkie) in the back woods, mostly out of reclaimed materials (see pics). Seeking someone with building experience to assist in getting the roof on before winter! Also garden / farm work, and sharing family meals. Ideal for us would be beginning the 8th or 9th of October, with a week for sure, and see how it goes from there... Look forward to hearing from you!

Chores here is mostly self-directed, but we'll make sure you're comfortable with any task, and doing work you enjoy. We are looking for people who want to contribute. And those who would really appreciate the opportunity to be in nature a lot, and/or get to know nearby Ptbo ON. Work is 4-5 hours a day – sometimes by yourself (with direction). In addition to work above, some basic cooking (we each take a turn) and doing dishes/cleaning by each person is expected.

Other potential tasks (we can talk), include dog walking, housekeeping/cleaning, clearing fence rows (cutting down vines, burning brush, etc), splitting wood, etc.)...

Springville (our little town) is a sweet spot. There's a a gas station and convenience store. Just beyond is the Golden Wheel restaurant, Chinese and Canadian food, with occasional entertainment. Peterborough is an amazing community, with lots of live music, cafes, and other things to do. We go there often, and are happy to take you along.
