We're looking for willing helpers in early July for various projects (painting, gardening, fencing). Mainly though, we want to clear the streams before they disappear completely!
We left our IT jobs and homes in the UK to come and live in this gorgeous old mill in August 2016. Our end goal is to be as self sufficient as possible, but to enjoy life on the way. We are going to try to use permaculture principles but have a steep learning curve there! We are vegetarian and have 1 dog, 2 cats, 6 chickens and 2 old ponies.
We also have a gite, which also has a private pool. With the summer weather, it's lovely to cool down at the end of the day. We are surrounded by incredible views, lakes, streams and there are loads of walks or cycle tracks. Both of us love walking and off road cycling, and I am trying to work with glass (painting/stained glass) as a relax too, although since the ponies arrived last October my time has been diverted!!!!. Joe loves music and writing songs and both of us really enjoy meeting new people and listening to their stories. We try to meditate and do yoga when we can (although it's not made it to our daily routine yet!)
We are also vegetarian - wanting to become vegan - and try to live as sensitively as possible.

Help in the house
We don't speak very good French yet, but the local hamlet is mainly French speaking. We are becoming good friends with our french neighbour and try to join in any local activities. During the summer there is a weekly local market and various activities (music nights, food evenings) are happening in the village.
My husband is a budding songwriter and we hope to bring many people together through music. We enjoy showing our workawayers the local markets/neighbours vegetable sales and the local bio cheese farm - incredible cheese!
We have 2 properties - main house and the gite. Helpers will stay in the main house with us during autumn/winter (it's freezing in the gite at that time!), but is now nicely warmed up for the summer. We could also do with a bit of cleaning in the gite (not much) and making it feel lived in. There are 2 double rooms and one twin.
Anyone who can cook will also be gratefully received! We try to source from local individual producers and are lucky enough to be in a very BIO part of France.
We only want 4/5 hours help a day - weekends off. We're happy to show you the local area - some of the lakes here are beautiful and we have a canoe which you can borrow. We also have a variety of mountain bikes and the swimming pool is perfect at this time of year.
Also, anyone with good/alternative equine experience would be great. I have a lot to learn having taken on 2 frightened old ponies with bad feet!
English, very basic French and about 2 words of Spanish - happy to try though
Between May and October - the gite has several bedrooms - the master just redecorated. It has a wonderful view and although could do with some rooms painting, it's generally in very good condition. Basically, you will have the whole property to yourselves!
Between October and May, helpers will stay with us in the main house - own bedroom.
We have loads of mountain bikes and there are some beautiful trails to cycle/walk round. We are 20 mins in the car away from the historic town of Bourganeuf and would be more than happy to come with you on some sightseeing tours if you don't have a car (or trips to Limoges). In the gite, there is also a cinema room, subutio and table tennis table you can use.
We have guitars, a cahon, tamborine and a couple of keyboards so would love you to join in with the music if you like. We also have our telescope working too as the air here is so clear and the stars so bright!
