Description
We are located in the centre of Kuala Lumpur in a condominium with good facilities. We provide daycare/after school care service and play-based programs to students from 3-12 years old. Our play-based subjects are Science, Math, English & Chinese and also Adversity/Financial Quotient program.

We need workawayers to help with our teaching program, you do not need to know everything about all subjects above because the important thing is the cultural exchange with local children. So we welcome you who are from worldwide to explore the unknown world with local children.

We welcome Chinese/English speakers!!

Location: Our centre is only 5 mins walking distance to KTM train station (one station away from famous travel spot Batu Caves), 25 mins to Kuala Lumpur centre by KTM train. Besides, 15 mins walking to MRT yellow line station, direct to Twins tower, KLCC park and TRX shopping mall.

Our host, Lily, was both professional and approachable in equal measures, ensuring our stay was comfortable and interesting at all times. Our stay fell over the Lunar New Year holiday in Kuala Lumpur, and Lily went out of her way to include us in all of her social events and celebrations with her family. We learnt so much about the Chinese culture and Lily - who is a huge foodie! - introduced us to so much wonderful Chinese cuisine and fantastic local markets.
In regards to the teaching position, Mei Sin and Grace, the team at the daycare centre, were welcoming and friendly from the start. At this WorkAway we taught a range of ages from 3 to 10 years old and all of the children are friendly, curious little humans eager to interact with foreign teachers and learn more about the English language. Personally, I think this position would be best suited for those who have taught English before in Asia, as you need a basic understanding of how to plan a lesson and keep young children engaged and entertained for a few hours at a time. But the teaching is very simple and the daycare team outlined exactly what they needed us to teach and gave us a clear schedule, which was great.
The accommodation is a modern, air conned apartment in a huge condominium tower block on the outskirts of the city, a 30 minute KTM ride from KL Sentral. I wouldn't let this put you off, as it is quite nice to escape the hectic city centre but also not be too far away from downtown should you wish to venture in. We would quite often venture into the downtown area after our shifts at the daycare. The daycare is located in the ground floor level of the same condo tower block, so "going to work" literally requires taking the elevator downstairs - it's very convenient! Lily lives in the same tower block and often took us for food shops and invited us to her house to share dinner with her family, so despite being outside the city, you always feel like you have a friend to call on!
We would recommend this WorkAway for any friendly and easy going travelers keen to split their time between working with children and having time to explore the local areas outside of the main tourist spots in KL. This daycare role requires patience when it comes to some of the younger children, but it is a worthwhile cultural exchange and an unforgettable way of experiencing the real Kuala Lumpur, surrounded by lifelong locals who quickly become friends for life :-)
