Description
Hello! I live with my partner and two children in the north of Portugal. We've recently emigrated from the city, and our project is still in its early stages. We're working towards building our green future and could use some help.
We're busy planting, building, and gathering knowledge to create a welcoming environment for both people and nature. Our interests include ecological vegetable gardening, fermenting, herbs, and much more.
Right now, we're working on setting up a vegetable garden, herb garden, an animal area (for ducks), a natural pond/stream, and caring for some trees and plants on our land.
Location
We live on the edge of a small village with two cafés just a few minutes’ walk away. There you can grab a sandwich, an ice cream, or a drink. There's a bus to the train station, and from there it's about an hour to Porto. A larger village is 3 minutes by car or a 15-minute walk away, where you'll find small supermarkets, bakeries, a butcher, pharmacy, and more. We usually do our main grocery shopping twice a week in the city by car.
Accommodation
We offer a yurt, a caravan, and tents. Before your arrival, we’ll let you know which spot is available and where you'll be sleeping. Of course, you’re also welcome to bring your own campervan or tent.
Meals
We’ll share at least one meal a day, most likely lunch. The other meals will be provided for you to prepare yourself.
Facilities
This project is still in its early days, so don’t expect luxury. But if you enjoy the outdoors, you’ll feel right at home. We have an outdoor shower, a compost toilet, a washing machine, an outdoor kitchen, and Wi-Fi.
The Work
We're not a business, this is something we do out of passion and curiosity, and we’re keen to gain new experiences. We love learning and experimenting together with our WOOFers. So don’t expect a formal training program, but more of a hands-on, try-it-out environment where your ideas and input are very welcome. Most tasks are done together—many hands make light work, as the Dutch say. We also really enjoy the social aspect and often end the day around the campfire.Types of help and learning opportunities

There’s plenty to do in the area—tasting port on a boat in the Douro, visiting an animal sanctuary, dining at one of the many restaurants, exploring museums and villages, hiking, swimming, and more. It’s easy to connect with people here; they are friendly and curious.
There is also a community of people from different countries, including the Netherlands and Germany, who regularly organize activities. Shared meals, gardening together, and kids playing—it’s a great way to meet new people and feel at home.
We are always looking for new experiences, people, cultures, and traditions. We believe that’s what makes life beautiful and helps us grow as individuals. We also strongly believe that people thrive in a group, where they can learn from and support one another.Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
We could use practical help with almost everything—renovation, gardening, cooking, teaching our children new skills, creating a warm and social atmosphere, design, social media, wisdom, and life experience.
We are always working on different things ourselves, so most tasks will be done together—unless you prefer working alone, which is also totally fine. As we say in Dutch: many hands make light work!
We would like to host family’s and Individuals as well.Languages

We would love to speak Portugese. We are already learning but it would be better to do it on a daily basis We speak Dutch and English, we would love to share this with people if they are interested.Accommodation
We have tents available, and one of the buildings can be used for sleeping. (Just a heads-up: it’s very old, so don’t expect too much from it.)
If you have your own tent, camper, caravan, or anything else, you’re more than welcome to bring it—there’s plenty of space.
We have a bio toilet and outside shower (with privacy).
Meals will mostly be shared together—lunch and dinner are included.A little more information
