Description
We are a British family who moved to the Dordogne in 2025 to build a life closer to nature and grow more of our own food. We live near Eymet with our children, two dogs, two cats, chickens, ducks and guinea fowl.
We are developing our family smallholding using regenerative farming and permaculture principles to be as self sustaining as possible, with vegetable and fruit gardens, a greenhouse, fruit trees and pasture. It’s a non-commercial, subsistence only smallholding. Our aims include improving soil health, encouraging nature, biodiversity, conserving water and introducing sheep, pigs and cattle through rotational grazing.
We would particularly welcome people with good DIY skills who enjoy practical outdoor work and bringing ideas to a constantly evolving and developing project.
We love the space, peace and countryside here, as well as the local markets and villages. We are an active family who enjoy tennis, padel and cycling; our children also do dancing, handball and horse riding.
Workawayers would have their own space in our gîte on the property, with opportunities to exchange knowledge and enjoy friendly company while retaining their independence. We speak English, and our French is currently at beginner level. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We offer a chance to experience rural life in the Dordogne while helping develop a smallholding. You can practise English with us and join us in improving our beginner French.
We enjoy tennis, padel and cycling, and can help you find local activities and explore nearby markets and villages. There will be opportunities for conversation and time together, alongside plenty of independence.
We can share what we’re learning about growing food, caring for animals and applying regenerative and permaculture principles. We’d equally welcome your knowledge, practical skills and ideas, and would enjoy hearing about life and traditions in your home country. -
Help
We’re looking for practical help developing our family smallholding, particularly helping us establish animals, maintaining pastures, the orchard and vegetable and fruit gardens establishing sustainable systems. Good DIY skills would be especially welcome.
Other seasonal tasks include planting, weeding, harvesting, composting, improving pasture and helping care for our animals. Our aim is to use regenerative and permaculture principles throughout, and we welcome ideas and experience in these areas.
We’ll plan projects together and work alongside you where tasks need an extra pair of hands or shared guidance, with scope to work independently on agreed activities. We’re learning as we go and would enjoy exchanging skills and finding practical solutions together.
You should be reliable, comfortable around animals and happy doing physical work outdoors. Tasks will be agreed around your abilities, interests and the priorities at the time. -

Accommodation
You’ll stay in our (2 bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, lounge and TV room) gîte on the property, giving you your own space and independence away from the family home.
We’ll cover the cost of your food for you to prepare your own meals, and share fresh produce from our smallholding as it becomes available.
Our setting is rural, so we can also provide a runaround car if needed for shopping and exploring the local area. -
What else ...
We’re in a rural location near Eymet, well suited to people who enjoy countryside walks, cycling, local markets and exploring the Dordogne’s villages and towns. We can provide a runaround car if needed; you’ll need a valid driving licence to use it.
With children and animals on the property, we appreciate considerate guests who look after their accommodation, tools and shared surroundings. We’ll agree the help schedule and time off before your stay, giving you time to explore and enjoy your own space. -
