Description
We are a belgian-ecuadorian family running a small nomad hostel/ colive&cowork/ unschooling community/ whatever you like to call us :). It s situated in the fishing village of Santa Marianita at the Ecuadorean coast. It's an amazing place for all of us that thrive in an authentic and natural environment, love living with the local fishermen, value outdoor sports (kitesurf, surf, beachtennis, football..) and other cultures.

You are the coordinator, the responsible, the initiator, the leader, the organizer, the executer of a specific two-week focus project here
Why a focus project?
We value sustainability and defy inequality.
For the past years, we have been interested in learning more about and growing into sustainability and defying inequality. Organically we worked out various ideas together with the travelers coliving here
For sustainability, we created a filter to reuse showerwater, a biodigestor for toilet reuse, a solar waterheater, a solar-powered internet backup, and made bags from old fishing nets to avoid plastic bags. Defying inequality, we created a mix of cultures living together and growing through each other, collected second hand computers for the villages' students, brought over orthopedic materials for the disables in manta, and helped kids to swim.
We foster community and personal growth.
The first objective of all this has always been the learning process, the joy of creating something of value together, and the energy that arises of a group of people trying to do the right thing. Both for us, for the locals, and for the travelers and kids here contributing in the project.
It has been great learning, great community, great results.. and we want more 🔥. In an attempt be more consistent, we created the two-week focus projects. You are the main executer of this project, coordinating with us and with all current travelers here who are interested in helping out ❤
What are requirements for you to be able to do this?
*you feel affection for the project, you are curious and inspired to try it out ❤
*you naturally work proactive, independent, and initiative-rich. You love exploring and asking the right questions to get the project forward 💪
*you have great social skills and easily motivate, include and coordinate other people in what you are doing (both locals and travelers, also kids) 🤗
*experience in the field of the focus project is a big plus
*conversational spanish
How does this go practically?
*You work 4h a day, 6 days a week. Usually in the morning (unless there is a reason to do it different).
*We (Inge and Juan) will assist you as much as possible during these 2 weeks. Though as we have kids, a coliving to run, and a personal job, we can't be at your side the whole time.
*You plan and update the project on our big chalk board. This allows other locals and travelers to assist more easily as well.
*Welcome kids as well to join in. Remember the first purpose is learning, joy and community, not efficiency or results.
What is the focus project about?
All project ideas that make the world around us more sustainable and fair are welcome. Tell us your idea, your experience, what you feel comfortable contributing in 🤙
Examples are:
*planting trees (probably the project for this july)
*build a small windmill
*improve and install the sun-heated shower warmer
*reach more people from a mix of cultures, backgrounds and means to colive and exchange
*recycling bamboo rests to build a climb-playgroundLanguages spoken

We like monthly stays, as we always get sad when people leave. The focus project is 2 weeks, the rest of the time we can see if you either continue with a specific part of the project, or help us with some other small stuff around.
You get a small private room in our coliving. There's great stable internet, a common kitchen (though anyhow we eat together), you can use surf boards and guitar and yoga mats and juggling materials.. Basically you're part of our family, so we treat you like one, and it all becomes totally wonderful if you treat us like part of your family as well :).What else ...
Maybe i can tell something about us in short.
What we should mention.. is that we have quite a chaotic life style :). Don't come here volunteer if you look for something very organized, business-like, things timed and plans totally thought-through. But do come if you like to live the moment, like us.. When there is wind and we feel like, we leave everything and go kitesurf. We might start at 6 working cause we feel like, to suddenly stop because some interesting people have come by. Toddlers run between everything. Change of plans when Juan's dad comes back from fishing and needs the car. Etc.. And between everything, we try to do something useful :).
A little word about santa marianita: it is a fishing village, very quite, with a magnificent beach and around a lot of deserted little beaches.. wonderful. Come here for the coastal ecuadorian culture, for the nice people, and for the nature -don t come for party because you will end up disappointed. There is a good wind here to practice kitesurf, and good waves for surf or SUP.
There are a lot of dogs in santa marianita - don't come if you have fear of dogs.A little more information

I love thinking about the time when I was with you guys. How Juan would always be smiling or kitesurfing or building something. How Ana would stay around me when I made guacamole because she knew I had skills haha. How we would go to all the houses to find the awesome kids who would come swimming with me. When I feel stressed… read more
