The Retreat is a well established retreat center located on the coast in the Western Cape of South Africa. We are moving toward a community run retreat and 100% eco sustaistanability. This is a unique opportunity to learn, support, and participate in a unique wholistic and sustainability project.
Designed for those looking for a pause, a transition, an introduction to new possibilities, an exploration into themselves in the context of community and sacred work.
Our Work-Study Volunteer Program Offers:
An introductory apprenticeship in vegetarian cooking, hospitality, permaculture, community living, health and wellness retreat, council and story-telling, country living, almost 100% sustainable and alternative living. Including off-site community volunteering, comfortable single or shared accommodations and 3 vegetarian meals per day. All this is offered and held within the practice of meditation and mindfulness training. The program is free and a stepping stone to residency here and potential apprenticeship in the Born as the Earth Mentorship School.
PLEASE NOTE: Response to our invitation has been overwhelming. We may take a few days to get back to you. Please be patient with us. ALSO: Our next intake will be in August 2019 as a result of the volume of inquiries.

We are located in the birthplace of humanity. Caves very nearby have archaeological evidence of 12000 and 60000 years of homo sapien activity. Our spiritual/meditation/yoga retreat center is dedicated to remembering our innate ancient wisdom. Off-site volunteer work is part of the program. The sharing of one’s journey and story telling from the heart in council is how we learn about each other. The retreat center is filled with learning opportunities - from fellow volunteers and multi cultural residents, teachers and retreatants.
Additional Possibilities and Benefits:
After completing your first 30 days of volunteering at the Retreat you may, depending on availability and alignment, be:

*️️️️️️️️️️️️invited to join a 60 day training intensive through our BORN as the EARTH School - (an introductory work/study mentorship immersion) - fully inclusive and free of charge for Volunteer Program Graduates

groundskeeping majestically beautiful land; learning vegan and vegetarian cooking in a prayerful environment and cook for residents, volunteers and people on retreat; learning housekeeping in the manner of the beauty-way.
Our farm-to-table permaculture efforts are supported by curious learners and our 30kms of hiking trails through the floral kingdom of the Walker Bay Nature Conservancy need maintaining. And we’d love to have you share your admin and social media skills too.
Volunteers are not expected to work in the kitchen. Those who would like to learn and offer any kitchen skills they have will be cooking with a resident team and will be asked only to cook for other volunteers and residents. While we do have paying guests on organized retreats we do not have a restaurant or waitpersons. We are a spiritual community in service and are not an establishment for profit.
We are developing an earth based spiritual training school held within ancient indigenous wisdoms and mythologies from around the world. Your presence and engagement with all activities at our Retreat will help us establish Born as the Earth Mystery School.
