Description
About Us
We’re a friendly British family who’ve made our home in a small hamlet between Issigeac and Villeréal. We love the calm of rural life, good food, simple living, and being surrounded by nature.
We’re warm, easygoing, and appreciate clear communication and people who feel comfortable being independent. We enjoy meeting people from different places and love the idea of offering others a peaceful base in this beautiful part of France.
Where We Live
Our hamlet is tiny, quiet, and full of the charm you’d expect from Dordogne country living — stone houses, open farmland, and starry nights.
Issigeac and Villeréal are both within a short drive and offer everything you need: cafés, weekly markets, bakeries, and lively village communities. Issigeac’s Sunday market is one of the best in the region, and Villeréal has a gorgeous bastide square and a great Saturday market.
A vehicle is essential here, simply because there’s no public transport and we really are rural — but that’s part of what makes it so peaceful.
Our home itself is spacious, cosy, and designed for relaxed living. We have a pool (ideal in summer, only for the brave in winter!), outdoor space, and lovely walking routes straight from the house.
Our Animals
We have two Lhasa Apsos — gentle, affectionate lap dogs who love company and routine — and two young cats who are playful, curious, and sweet-natured. They’re a big part of our family, and we’re looking for people who genuinely enjoy animals and the comfort of shared furry companionship.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Staying in our home offers a chance to experience authentic French countryside living in one of the most charming areas of the Dordogne. Our hamlet is small and peaceful, but the surrounding villages — especially Issigeac and Villeréal — have a strong sense of community and plenty of opportunities to connect with local life.
Markets & Local Life
Issigeac’s famous Sunday market and Villeréal’s Saturday market are wonderful spots to meet locals, try regional produce, and get a feel for the rhythms of village life. Throughout the year there are night markets, brocantes, fêtes, and seasonal events where everyone comes together — a great way to experience the social heart of rural France.
Learning Our Lifestyle
By staying in our home, Workawayers can get a genuine sense of what it’s like to live simply and calmly in the French countryside. You’ll see how we structure days around nature, good food, slow living, and caring for our animals. It’s a chance to experience a quieter, more grounded pace if you’re used to busier environments.
Local Culture & Surroundings
The area is full of medieval bastide towns, wineries, walking routes, and historical sites. People here value community, artisanship, local food, and a slower lifestyle — something many Workawayers love to immerse themselves in.
Whether you’re interested in French rural culture, exploring beautiful villages, learning local food traditions, or simply enjoying the tranquillity of country life, there is plenty to soak up during your stay.
Help
Over the Christmas period (dates are flexible but probably between 21st December ro 30th December) We’re looking for reliable, caring house- and pet-sitters to look after our home and animals while we are away. The ideal person (or couple) is calm, responsible, and genuinely enjoys a peaceful rural environment.
Your main tasks would be:
• Caring for our two Lhasa Apsos: feeding them, taking them for a daily walk, and giving them plenty of affection and company — they are true lap dogs and love being near people.
• Feeding our two young cats: and keeping an eye on them as they come and go.
• Keeping an eye on the pool system: mainly checking the pump is running correctly (we will show you exactly what to look for).
• General home care: keeping the house clean, tidy, and looked after as you would your own.
It’s not a demanding stay — just consistent, gentle care and respect for the home, with lots of downtime to enjoy the countryside.
If you’re responsible, animal-loving, and comfortable in a rural setting, we would love to hear from you.

Accommodation
Accommodation
Our home is a comfortable 3-bedroom house in a peaceful hamlet between Issigeac and Villeréal. During your stay, as we will be away, you’ll have full access to the entire home — it’s important to us that you feel relaxed, safe, and at ease.
The house includes:
• A fully equipped kitchen
• A cosy living room with a log burner, TV and internet
• A clean, comfortable bathroom
• A large, quiet garden perfect for reading, relaxing, or enjoying the countryside atmosphere
There is also an optional alternative stay: a quaint caravan in the garden for those who enjoy a more rustic, private, or nature-focused experience. Bedding can be provided, and you are still welcome to use the facilities inside the house.
Food arrangements:
You can use the kitchen freely for cooking your own meals, and there are excellent local markets in Issigeac and Villeréal where you can pick up fresh produce. We’re happy to leave basics (tea, coffee, spices, etc.) to get you started.
Overall, the setup is simple, comfortable, and ideal for someone who enjoys peace, privacy, and a homey environment while caring for animals.
What else ...
To keep our home calm and comfortable for both you and the animals, we kindly ask that you follow a few simple rules:
• No smoking inside the house.
• No guests, please. Our dogs are very sensitive and can become unsettled with unfamiliar people in the home.
These guidelines help keep everything peaceful and predictable for the pets, and ensure a smooth, stress-free stay for everyone.
