We are a family of 3 living in the Highlands of Scotland. We run a 14 bed hostel from our home, but we have a permanent housekeeper who helps with the running of the hostel.
We are looking for a volunteer to help entertain our 10 year old son during his school holidays (which always coincide with our busy times) and also to help maintain our garden. We run the garden organically and grow our own fruit, vegetables and herbs. No previous experience is required but we won't be able to work with you a lot so you will need to be independent as much as possible.
You will have your own room and we will provide you with 3 meals a day, which you'll eat with us and any guests who have booked meals.
You will also be expected to help with the household tasks like clearing up after meals, laying the table, vacuuming etc.
Gregor (our son) has taken an interest in learning to speak German so if you can help him with this ambition he would be eternally grateful. He's also keen to improve his ability to play traditional music on his acoustic guitar.

Travellers will definitely learn about our area especially the nature and culture. There will probably be the opportunity for cultural exchanges with people from all over the world, depending on when you choose to visit. You'll also have the opportunity to go out on hikes with a local expert guide if you have suitable clothes and boots.
We are looking for someone who enjoys variety in their day and likes to help out in many different areas of the home. There's always something to be done depending on the time of year.
At weekends and during school holidays we'd like someone who can encourage our son, Gregor, to do activities other then watch DVDs, or play computer games. He is learning both the guitar and the keyboard. He also loves being outside, building fires, building dens, whittling with this penknife etc but he likes to have company which is the one thing we can struggle with.
You would have your own room in the main house with shared bathroom facilities. You will be expected to keep your room clean and change the bed linen but we will provide all clean bed linen and all meals.
There's a plethora of trails throughout the area for hiking or mountain biking. We're half an hour from Inverness (by car). There's a local bus which runs regularly through the village linking us with Grantown-on-Spey and Aviemore. There's a sports centre in Aviemore and in Grantown which you can use. We don't have any spare mountain bikes but if you have your own do bring it with you.
We have any organic garden which also consumes a lot of time but if you're here at the right time of year, a lot of our fruit and vegetables will be home grown.
